Prep Community News
Hello, Prep Families!
We cannot believe our prep students have been here for half a year! They have shown so much growth and resilience since the beginning of the year. We look forward to the next half of the year and seeing the students shine even more!
Reading
In Reading, we have been making connections. We have been thinking about what the story we have read reminds us of. The preps have blown us away with their thoughtful and interesting connections. Please have a look at some of our amazing connections! We also practised visualising by listening to descriptions and drawing what we see in our minds.
Writing
In writing, we have been learning about when to use c or k in a word and the sound that -ck makes. We learnt the rhyme ‘k takes i and e (sometimes y) and c takes the other 3 and consonants’ to help us know when to use a c or k. We also learnt the rhyme ‘ck says /k/ at the end of a word after a short vowel sound’. Our preps have also been learning how to write a 5-star sentence. We have been inspired by images to create and write our sentences.
Maths
We continued to learn about shapes in week 9. The 3D objects we learned about were cubes, spheres, cylinders, and rectangular prisms. We found objects in our classroom drink bottles, books and even the heaters that were the same 3D shapes! As we moved into week 10, we began revising our number facts such as naming numbers, counting forwards and backwards, representing numbers with objects, subitising small groups of objects, and comparing numbers.
Sip and Crunch
Sip and Crunch is a great way for your child to refuel on fresh fruit or vegetables during learning time. For Sip and Crunch, we ask that you add a small container of cut fruit or vegetables that is separate from your child’s lunchbox so that they can have it on their table to crunch on while learning. In addition, we also ask that you pack a bottle of water so that they can sip on this at their table during learning time.
Take Home Reading
At Tarneit Rise we have a take-home reading program. Each child will be given a day where they will change the books in their reading satchel or red prep bag with their teacher's assistance. The teacher will also be checking the journal so we can monitor how many nights of reading they have completed.
If you have any questions about this process, please speak to your child’s classroom teacher. They will be happy to help you.
Reminders
In term 2, parents/carers are asked to let their child walk into the pod by themselves to help build their independence. At the end of the day, children need to be collected from their classrooms by their parents/carers.
Please ensure all items of clothing are labelled. This helps us to get them back to you if they are misplaced.
We wish our preps and their families a happy and safe holiday! We cannot wait to return in term 3 and see all the amazing growth!
