Auslan Report
Dear Parents and Carers,
In our last fortnight of Auslan for Term 2, Students will learn to sign numbers. Grade Preps will focus on numbers 1-10 and will play games like ‘Buzz’ and learn to sign and sing ‘1,2,3,4,5……Once I Caught a Fish Alive’. Grade 1 and 2’s will focus on numbers from 1-20 and will also play ‘Buzz’ but will be challenged with multiples of numbers which will encourage cross-curricular learning with mathematics. Grade 3 and 4’s will sign numbers from 1-20 including learning to sign with counting by 2’s and also signing addition problems. Grade 5 and 6 students will extend their learning of numbers from 1-20 and will practise in a silent environment to encourage solely using their Auslan skills.
In the final week of learning Auslan this term (Week 11), students from all year levels will be doing a revision lesson. This will encompass all skills learnt this term and cover most topics. Students will focus on listening to a story in Auslan and demonstrating their understanding by interpreting the signs.
As our students build their repertoire of words, engage in conversations and enjoy practising signs together as learnt by our students! Please see the poster below and scan the QR Code which will provide you with YouTube videos to assist in practising together at home.
Keep updated on learning Auslan each fortnight in our community newsletter!
Kind Regards
Jess Pfister
