In 7M we are highly energetic and an enthusiastic class. We enjoy talking and socialising and will discuss any topic of interest. As a class we are working really hard on consistently demonstrating the 3 college values, towards ourselves as well as each other. We are improving and have made steady progress over the whole year. Our leaders work hard to demonstrate what we need to strive for.
ENGLISH
In our learning this term in English, we will finish off our Poetry CAT, engage in some writer's choice writing, complete information reports around the upcoming Olympics, as well as engage in Book Club discussions on a weekly basis, and immerse ourselves in a text analysis unit around the movie 'Paper Planes'.
MATHS
During our Math sessions, we will start the term reinforcing some multiplication, division and BIDMAS knowledge, which will then lead onto some work in Algebra. This semester we have an extensive focus on times tables and we hope that by the end of the year, through work at home and in the classroom, we will have mastered them!
SCIENCE
7M students are practicing their Bunsen burner technique. Year 7 students are currently studying the particle model and looking at how various substances transform between gas, liquid and solid states. Learning to perform activities safely and how to then use the information gathered to create a scientific report are key aspects of the Year 7 course.
PE / HEALTH
Our Year 7M students have been deeply engaged in a crucial unit on puberty and respectful relationships this term. The program has sparked thoughtful discussions and learning about personal growth, changes during puberty, and the importance of building respectful, positive relationships.
Currently, 7M is working on an exciting project about identity, creatively exploring the concept through the metaphor of 'islands'. Each student is identifying and describing four 'islands' in their lives that represent significant aspects of who they are. These islands may include family, friends, hobbies, cultural background, or any other influential part of their identity. The project not only fosters self-awareness but also encourages students to appreciate the diverse backgrounds and experiences of their peers.
We are proud of 7M's dedication and enthusiasm as they navigate these important topics, and we look forward to seeing their completed projects!
TEXTILES
7M have been learning skills for safety in the textiles room. This involves learning how to cut accurately, thread a sewing machine, pin fabric and follow directions. Students have begun to sew on the sewing machine independently this week and this skill will develop as the term continues. The next few weeks will see Year 7 students select their apron fabric, cut it out and begin sewing it together.
HUMANITIES
7M have been looking at how Australia as a society works, and how we exercise our democratic rights. They have looked at the Constitution and had a shot at creating their own, which they then voted on and passed. They have also been looking at how societies create their own rights and responsibilities, and how laws help to ensure that citizens are protected and able to live safely and freely.
