Principal's News

Dear Parents and Carers,

Hoping you are all well and looking forward to the long weekend. Just a reminder to our community that our school will be closed on Monday 10th June as it is a public holiday to celebrate the King’s Birthday.

We look forward to seeing all of the children returning to school on Tuesday 11th June at 9.00am.

Student Supervision starts at 8.45am each morning and concludes at 3.45pm each afternoon.

A reminder to our community to please drop children off in the mornings into the school from 8.45am onwards and not before, unless they are going to Team Kids or one of the organised extra curricula activities such as soccer and tennis.  This also applies to children who get to school themselves.

There is no staff supervision until 8.45am and children who are left in the yard outside before this time are left to their own devices. It would be terrible if they were to slip and fall and because staff can be attending morning meetings or in their classrooms, they are not available to assist.

Happy Campers at the SUMMIT Camp

I am sure all of our Year 5/6 parents will have seen the latest COMPASS posts and the padlet that Zaim has put together to highlight the fantastic experiences the children have had so far.

Their first night last night, went quite smoothly and they all enjoyed a roaring campfire and toasted marshmallows. Today the weather is a little chillier than Melbourne but it’s sunny. Of course, children never feel the cold and again have been embracing all the activities on offer.

140th Birthday Drawing Competition winners

Thank you to all the students who entered their amazing drawings for the SRC competition.

All of these will be posted on the space outside our office for everyone to see. There were just so many fabulous drawings that highlighted the wonderful features of our school.

I am thrilled to announce that the Year 6 students undertook a gallery walk of all the entries and were able to select 3 winners to have their drawings go on the advertising board for our 140th celebration.

The winners are:

  1. Jeremiah Urio and Sebastian Slee
  2. Letticia Campos
  3. Elena Salavati

Students will be awarded their prizes next week.

Investigations and Educational Research Projects

This week’s BULLETIN focuses on Investigations and Educational Research Projects (ERPs). A co-designed child-focused learning environment underpins the pedagogy for these sessions. Learner agency is at the core. The learning environment is set up to promote curiosity and provide each child the opportunity to develop skills such as:   Thinking critically and creatively, speaking, posing questions or wonderings, creating a rich vocabulary, collaborating, and making connections to the real world.

The video below addresses the similarities between Investigations and ERPs and explains how the children transition from Investigations P-2 to ERPs in Years 3-6. Roles that children take on such as Focus child, Reporter, and Photographer are explained and highlight the important skills children develop. These skills are then applied to their ability to ask ‘thick’ questions and explore a topic in greater detail. Children’s speaking and listening skills are extensively developed in these sessions as children share their interests, wonderings and findings with their peers.

Parents of students in Year 3/4 would have recently seen the end product of the ERP on cultures and countries that the students have been researching and the pride they showed in the presentation of their research. It was also fabulous to see the agency and ownership over their learning that the children exhibited.

Thank you Allira

Whilst I was absent on Wednesday, which is my non-working day and Connie went to camp, I asked Allira if she could be the principal and thank fully, she said yes. I announced that at assembly, and her class were very excited. So much so that this morning I receive a lovely story from Joanne Lentzos about Allira.
