Although we are reaching the pointy end of Term Two, there is still a lot of important learning taking place. Here's what we've been up to recently!
Reading: In reading, we have been using a focus text to add context to assist with developing our comprehension and analysis strategies. Our text is Boy Overboard by Morris Gleitzman, which follows the story of two young children from Afghanistan who face numerous challenges fleeing their country for Australia.
Students have analysed the characterisation and author's purpose and have developed their own text connections, predictions and questions.
Writing: We wrapped our narratives last week and have now been focused on Procedural texts. Students have created their own procedures, paying close attention to the necessary features and language choices that make the text more effective.
Maths: We have explored important number skills related to column multiplication and long division. We have also been exploring data, looking at different ways to collect, display and analyse information we have gathered.
Humanities: Students have engaged in another short project task, aimed at developing their understanding of businesses and how to develop a product and business plan for a product that they think could sell in today's market.
We acknowledged Reconciliation Week in various ways. Our school leaders attended a special gathering at the Civic Centre with the other schools in our community, participating in a range of activities and observing a smoking ceremony.
We completed some tasks in our classrooms, based on this year's theme 'Now More Than Ever" and discussed the meanings around this.
We also held a special assembly, lead by our captains, to educate students. This was finished with a beautiful reading of the story 'Somebody's Land' by Mrs Dyt.
We were fortunate enough to have Nolene, Sarah and Jacob compete at the Division Cross-Country two weeks ago. These superstars put fantastic efforts into their events, proudly finishing with strong results! Sarah finished 13th, Nolene 14th and Jacob 28th!
Well done!
On Friday 7th June, our students participated in the Winter Lightning Premiership for Soccer, Tee-Ball and Netball. All teams tasted some success throughout the day, with our Tee-Ball's undefeated run leading them to CHAMPIONS!
Proudly, our school received comments from other schools and umpires about their excellent sportsmanship!
