Middle School

It's hard to believe we're past the halfway point of the term already! It has been a busy few weeks with lots on both in and out of the classroom, such as Mother's Day stall and afternoon tea, Responsible Pet Ownership visit and the delicious party pies and sausage rolls enjoyed by students on food day this week!

IN OUR LEARNING

In Reading students have been comparing and evaluating texts and giving reasons why one text was easier to understand than the other. Students have been drawing connections between texts and their own personal experiences and are developing criteria to establish their personal preferences of books.

In Writing students have been writing persuasive texts on the topic: 'It is better to have emotions than to not feel any emotions at all'. Students have focused on supporting their opinions with strong reasons and using persuasive devices like exaggeration, rhetorical questions and facts to help persuade the reader.

In Maths, students have been learning about equivalent fractions and the relation between fractions and decimals. We revisited multiplication and explored various strategies to help solve multiplication problems. We began our unit on measurement and working out the perimeter of regular and irregular shapes.

In Humanities, students have learned about the significance of the Olympic rings and flame and have researched traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander sports and famous Indigenous athletes.

NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME

Our students came together along with millions of other children around the country for the annual National Simultaneous Storytime. We joined the livestream reading of Aura Parker's Bowerbird Blues and we're currently working on a display for the library - stay tuned for pictures of the finished product!
