Guest Reporters: Hez, Khai Khai, Dallas, Ethan and Oskar
For each edition of our newsletter a small team of students are invited to become our Guest Reporters and share with you some of their experiences. This week we are pleased to have reports from:
We asked our foundation and junior students what they have been learning about. They have been learning lots with their wonderful new teachers who have joined the team! Juniors also have some exciting events coming up this term including an excursion and the Junior Sleepover!
Here is what some of the Junior and Foundation students have been learning about
" We are learning the Alphabet song!" - Mikkel
"We are learning to count and throw balls!" - Mikkel
"We are learning about frogs - they have eggs in water!" - Cooper
"We have been guessing numbers in a game we play in partners. We get clues and have to see if it matches" - Ruby
Our Middle School students have been doing lots of learning! In maths they have been doing division, which some students find tricky but they are showing resilience with their work!
They have been learning about the First Fleet in 1787 and how it was made up of 11 ships!
The students have also been creating stop motions where it looks like the image is moving but it's not - they have had lots of fun doing these.
This term our senior school students participated in inter school sports. There was a Netball mixed and a girls team, as well as a volleyball team. We are so proud of all teams and players. Our Volleyball team smashed out the district being undefeated in the whole season.
The Volleyball team made it through to the next stage but unfortunately didn’t go ahead However we are still so proud of them and their achievement.
Our volleyball team consisted of:
(Pictured) Dallas, Oskar, Jackson, Blake, Khai Khai, Finnian, Jay, Cohen, Ethan and Jake.
(Not Pictured) Alyssa, Emily and Natahlia.
Our netball mixed team did so well but sadly didn’t make regionals after all. Our netball girls team did well but also didn’t make it through.
However we are so proud of all the teams and players for doing their absolute best at all times. We would like to acknowledge all schools for their magnificent play type.
Good job to all our teams.
This term our senior students went on a magnificent camp in the city.
Our camp started off a bit rocky when the train left with only half of our students on board.
If that wasn’t enough the first train terminated all passengers after 3 stops! Eventually we all met up on the same train and continued the rest of the way to the city together.
DAY 1
It started off with a river cruse down the Yarra River. The favourite part of the cruise was the back of the boat where you could stand out the back.
Then we did ice skating at O'Brien Ice House. We had 2 instructors that here awesome - all students showed magnificent resilience as it was very tricky.
DAY 2
We started off the day with 2 hours of swimming at MSAC. They set up diving boards and a inflatable obstacle course for us. Then we got an hour in the wave pool.
After that we went to the old Melbourne Gaol and did a tour. We saw the cells, and all around the Gaol.
On our way back to CYC we visited Hozier lane.
DAY 3
We stared off our day playing at Birrarung Marr Playground.
After that we made our way over to ACMI (Australian Centre For Moving Image).
Some of the Favourite parts were The Video Games, Mad Max, The Memory Garden.
We then made our way home.
On Tuesday we had our Athletics day, the sun was out which was awesome!
We did shot put, high jump, triple jump, running 200m and a 100m race, long jump and discus! It was a really fun day all up, getting to compete with friends!
We are so proud of all our students for making it such an amazing day – and for all the excellence, resilience and respect that was shown on the day which lead us so much closer to a celebration day!
Here is some of what out students had to say about their favourite part of the day:
“I had fun competing with my friends on my team – I won 1st in Shotput and high jump! High jump was the favourite part of my day as well as the 100m because I came 2nd!” – Hez
“Running because its fun and I'm fast” – Riley
“Jumping, because it is my favourite thing - I live with it” – Zoe
“Jumping in the sand because it looks good!“ - Mikkel
“The foxtails – because I came first and it was fun “- Kaleb
“The parachute was my favourite!” - Josiah
Here are some of our students getting into the olympic spirit dressing up in green and gold!
