Art- CNPS and the Australian Antarctic Festival

CNPS is participating in the Australian Antarctic Festival 2024.

The only event of its kind in Australia, the Australian Antarctic Festival celebrates the role of Hobart as one of the world’s pre-eminent gateways to the Antarctic and acknowledges the contribution made by the Antarctic community to both the economy and the social fabric of Tasmania.

Almost 200 schools were each sent 50 cut-out Adélie penguins to paint and return to the festival. These penguins are not just waddling back to our ‘rookery’ – they are so excited they are rushing back. Come and see the results of the extraordinary colour and creativity of the ‘Penguin Rookeries’ displays. We are hoping to receive more than 10,000 Adélie penguin cut-outs hand-painted by school children from all over Australia and overseas. This year we have sent penguins to gateway cities of Antarctica. Try and find the penguins from Punta Arenas, Ushuaia and Christchurch.

Date: 22nd – 25th August 2024

This week the 1/2s, 3/4s and 5/6s spent their Art lessons decorating our penguins. The 1/2s and 3/4s used tissue paper and PVA glue to create colourful mosaic style designs, whilst the 5/6 students used acrylic paint to display their imagination and talent.
