Wow! We can’t believe we are at the end of term 2 already.
In Reading the year 3’s have been working on numerous different reading strategies such as analysing, critiquing and summarising, identifying author’s message while exploring different kinds of non-fiction books.
Through our writing unit we have been writing information reports ensuring we follow the writing process to produce a quality piece of writing. The information reports have included headings, subheadings, an introduction, labelled diagrams and captions. The students researched, planned, drafted and published their information reports and really enjoyed writing them.
In Maths we have just wrapped up our multiplication unit and are beginning to explore division. We are also learning about angles and time.
In Science, the students have explored how the Earth's rotation on its axis causes regular changes, such as day and night.
We are proud of all our students' efforts, positive mindsets and look forward to acknowledging and celebrating their accomplishments with them throughout these units.

The year 4’s have been super busy as we get towards the end of term 2, nearly half way through the year!
Throughout reading and writing, we have been exploring expository texts and learning new information on how or why something happens. We were able to explore different experiments such as the ‘liquid layers’ experiment to create a short explanation and how the liquids did not mix together.
In maths we have been focusing on multiplication and how to tell the time. Both units have been lots of fun! We have been learning key skills to help us in our math’s in the future! We have been learning through different maths games to help us with our learning!
In science we have been exploring what erosion and weathering is and how this impacts the earth around us. We have been conducting experiments and investigating the affects erosion and weathering have on our earth!
In sport we have been focusing on conflict resolution and how be to respectful to one another. These session focus on positive and respectful communication between our peers and how to deal with issues in games that arise.

In Reading, Grade 5 students have been practicing their reading comprehension skills with various texts throughout the term. They have been able to apply their understanding of predicting, synthesizing, clarifying, analysing and critiquing as well as use text evidence to support their thinking.
In Writing, students have been learning how to write an expository text, specifically an explanation text. This text type is written to describe the ‘why’ and ‘how’ something happens or how something works. We have looked at different types of text features and paragraphs that can be found in these types of writing. Soon, students will form a question and research and write their own explanation texts.
In Maths, Students have been working on Multiplication and Division. They have practiced applying various strategies to solve a range of equations and worded problems. Furthermore, students have been learning about different types of measurement. In the next few weeks, we will explore capacity, mass and time.
In Humanities, students have formed small groups and have chosen a country to research. They are working towards putting on a travel expo for others to learn more about their chosen country. Next in Science, students are constructing a 3D poster of the Solar System and are working on creating fact files for each planet. Lastly in Health, students have been learning about the benefits of physical activity and how to engage in physical activity within and outside the school.
Kind regards,
Grade 5 Teachers

Hello Brooksiders,
Our term 2 has been scrumbdiliumshous!
Firstly, we’ve been looking at different expository texts in reading. We have been synthesising, critiquing and analysing text structures. Last week we did some research on giant squids… did you know they can grow to 18 metres!? That’s the size of our class to the northern building!
In writing we have been looking at expository
texts and identifying paragraph structures like cause and effect, problem and solution and order and sequence. This will help us when we come to write our own expository texts next week. Stay tuned for that!
In Maths we are measuring and classifying angles and finding the measurements in the real world. We are also working on our number and algebra skills by figuring out square roots and index numbers and the 4 operations using BIDMAS. In humanities we are doing projects on countries in Europe and North America. At the end of term we will be inviting other classes and families to our grade 6 Travel Expo! All our groups are doing different tourist countries. I’m doing Iceland and Chelsea and Jhasan are doing Belgium. For science we are learning all about natural disasters and extreme weather patterns like which is volcanos, hurricanes and earthquakes
These last couple of weeks have been lots of fun, yesterday we checked out the year 9 expo and last week we had a fun dress up day for the Biggest Morning Tea followed by Pajama day (Miss Kelly’s favourite school day).
But most excitingly we got are year 6 shirts! Check out how good we look!
Jhasan is sad because she didn’t get a shirt L Don’t worry Jhasan, there’s always year 9! Thanks Mrs Gillis and Mrs Annsion for these, we know there were a lot of issues in the ordering process but it was worth the wait!
We are so looking forward to the holidays and the SWPBS shop coming up soon!
Thanks for taking the time to read our article,
Phoenix, Jhasan and Chelsea – 6C
