Tutoring Program

Term 3 tutoring has begun and we have begun establishing some reading goals. Students participating will be a part of a small group focus to boost their learning in reading. Students get the most benefit from the program when they are reading at home every day.

Grade 1 and 2 Home Reading Program

Students will be given a familiar text that they have read at school and it is expected that they read this text at home and return it back the next day.

Supporting your child's reading at home

You can support your child at home by following the 3 Ps- Pause, Prompt, Praise. Here are some examples of prompts you can use;

  • What is happening in the picture? Can that help you work out that word?
  • Can you sound out the words?
  • Does that make sense?
  • Can you break the word into smaller sounds/words?

After reading a book, ask your child to retell what the book was about. Ask ‘what are the most important things that happened in the text?” “Is there anything else?” Remind them to use the book to help remember what happened in order.
