🌟 Welcome Back to Term 3! 🌟

We hope you all had a wonderful school holidays together and that everyone stayed safe. This term is extremely busy for us down here in Prep Land. We have so many exciting and fun things happening and we hope you're equally as excited as we are. I've included a snapshot below.

Β

πŸ“š READING πŸ“š

Over weeks 1 and 2, Prep students have been introduced to the vocabulary of 'informative' (non-fiction) and 'imaginative' (fiction) texts. We have been looking at the different features of each type of text and looking for the key differences and clues that help us determine what time of text we are reading.Β

PLD - WORD STUDY

In PLD, we have begun looking at how words can be broken up into their different sounds. Students are given words lists that are suited to their spelling skills. From here, we use sound boxes to isolate the sounds and record them effectively. This has seen a great improvement in students spelling. We have also begun learning the common digraphs (two letters making one sound) such as sh, ch and th and have played word games such as memory to support learning!Β

✏️ WRITING ✏️

The first half of term 3 will see prep students introduced to information reports and revisiting recounts. Over this unit, we will learn about different Australian, African and Aquatic animals. We will learn the difference between a fact and an opinion and practise recording facts about the animals that we have learnt about. This unit ties into the informative texts being reads in reading.

πŸš΄πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ BIKE EDUCATION πŸš΄πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

At the end of last term, Mr Rees organised Bike Education. All of the Prep students LOVED this program and learnt important skills to stay dafe around the roads when riding bikes.

The Prep A students are very excited for the Olympics and have been talking all about it! Over the last two weeks students were given some of the history of the games and where it all began. We discussed the different sports and events that are played in the Summer games and created out own athlete profiles.Β

In Week 2, we dug a bit deeper into the Olympics, the symbolism and the different historical events that take place. We looked at the Olympic torches and the the fact that they go on a special tour before the games. We then used paper, cellophane and pencils to create our own torches.Β
