Year One Team News

with Anna, Zoe, Edan & Claire

Hello Year One families,

We can’t believe that next week is the last week of term and that we will be halfway through the year! The kids have made so much progress socially and academically and we are looking forward to seeing everything they will achieve next semester. The Year One teachers hope that everyone has a wonderful and restful holiday, and we look forward to seeing you next term!

Student Learning Conferences

Just a friendly reminder that Student Learning Conferences are taking place next Tuesday the 25th of June between 1-7pm. Students will be dismissed from school at 12.30pm. Bookings are now open on Compass for you to select a ten minute time slot to meet with your child’s classroom teacher. We look forward to seeing you then.

Year 1 Planning Day

Next Wednesday the 26th of June is our scheduled Planning Day. On this day the Year One students will enjoy specialist classes for the day, which they are looking forward to. They will not have specialists on any other day next week.

Didgeridoo, Beats and Culture Incursion

In Inquiry during Term 3, the Year 1 One Students will be exploring different cultures around the world, beginning with the world’s oldest living culture. On Wednesday the 24th of July (Week 2, Term 3), an indigenous presenter, Ganga, a descendant of the Palawa people of Tasmania, will be coming to hold an incursion. He will engage the students with traditional musical instruments, storytelling and hands-on activities, helping them to gain a deeper appreciation of indigenous history. This event is open on Compass for you to provide consent and payment.

Curriculum Focus: Week 11

Reading: We have moved into stage 7.3 of the Little Learners Love Literacy program. Next week, we will review these 7.3 sounds.

Writing: Students will continue enjoying writing freely on a topic each day. This is providing students the chance to be creative and apply all of their writing skills.

Numeracy: We will be focusing on solving addition and subtraction equations using number lines.

Inquiry:  Our topic this term is “How and why do we care for animals? How do animals care for us?”.

Willy Kids/Respectful Relationships: Our Willy Kids focus is “Willy Kids are reflective learners". We will be discussing and learning to self-assess and accept feedback from peers and adults to set goals for future learning. During our Respectful Relationships sessions our topic this term is Personal Strengths. We will be learning to identify and describe personal strengths, explain how these strengths contribute to school and family life, as well as identifying ways to care for others, including ways of making and keeping friends.

Warm regards,

The Grade One Team –  Zoe Kitchen & Anna Swan (1K), Edan Bacegga (1B) & Claire Davies (1D)
