The Curriculum Focus in Performing Arts

Prep: Students have continued their work on learning to read rhythms and playing the keyboard. They have learnt how to play the song “Rain Rain” which fits in nicely with their unit on weather.

Year 1: Students have continued playing songs on the keyboard and xylophones. This week they have even played a game of Musical Snakes and Ladders using the xylophones.

Year 2: Students have had a bit of a jam this week having a go at playing the songs learnt throughout the term on the keyboard and marimbas.

Grade 3/4: Students have been sharing the verses of the 12 bar blues they have created and have accompanied students singing on the keyboard.

Grade 5/6: Students have started writing a 4-line verse and chorus for a school song about Willy Primary. They have had to consider the use of phrasing and a rhyming structure. I have been really impressed with how students have approached this activity.

BONJOUR Tahnii

This week, we have been very fortunate to welcome a former Willy student to the French Room. All year levels continued working on preparing themselves for our upcoming Bastille Day celebration (Term 3 – Thursday 18th July) by focusing on linguistic/cultural/historical aspects of it:

Preps – Le roi Louis XVI et la reine Marie-Antoinette

Year 1s – Le Palais De Versailles

Year 2s – La Prison De La Bastille

Year 3s – La Tour Eiffel

Year 4s -  La Révolution Française

Here is what Tahnii, our work experience student, has to say about her experience with us:

‘I am a Williamstown High School student and I spent my work experience week in the French classroom at Williamstown Primary School. Working as a French teacher was an amazing and enlightening experience that helped me properly understand what it would be like to be a primary school teacher and I am grateful that I got to spend a week helping out. I really enjoyed having the freedom to teach and help students with their French work and I believe that this experience has really helped my teaching skills and encouraged me to strive to becoming a primary school teacher when I’m older. I loved working with the kids as much as they did, and I believe my work experience week was very successful. I am glad that this school is just as wonderful as I left it and I look forward to seeing the French classroom and students again in the future!’

WPS Bastille Day Food Stalls - Croissants & Macarons

For our whole school Bastille Day celebration on Thursday 18th July 2024, the Year 5/6 French Committee will be holding French food stalls for everyone to purchase from at recess time and after lunch during session 5

With prices ranging from $2 to $5, there will be viennoiseries such as croissants, pains au chocolat, macarons, etc …

A great and delicious way to immerse our taste buds into French culture!!

Gates will open at 2.45pm for families to join in the BASTILLE DAY afternoon festival.

Note that students will be dismissed for the day at 3.30pm, from their classrooms.

Merci beaucoup,

Madame CRICRI 😊

Kitchen Garden

During weeks 8 and 9 we held the finals for our Junior Masterchef competition which was run during term 2 for our grade 5/6 classes. The students worked in groups to prepare a dish for their teachers to judge. Our winning recipes were:

5/6C Equal 1st place for ‘Mini Pizzas with Home Made Lemonade’ and ‘Chocolate Mousse with Chocolate Dirt’

5/6B Equal 1st place for ‘Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies’ and ‘Raspberry and White Chocolate Muffins”

5/6K Cookie Cake

5/6I Equal 1st place for ‘Mini Vegetarian Pizzas’ and ‘Assorted Sweet and Savoury Puff Pastries’

5/6D Nachos and Brownies

5/6M Equal 1st place for ‘Brownies’ and ‘Strawberry Tart and Chai Tea Cookies’

The students all worked extremely hard and should be extraordinarily proud of themselves no matter where they placed. Every recipe was a success which is such an impressive achievement given they all worked fairly independently.

I’d like to say a huge thank you to the grade 5/6 team for their support of the program and for judging the competition and to special guest judges Mat and Puhie who stepped in to fill in for staff members who were absent.

Last but not least I would like to acknowledge the parents who have supported the program throughout the term. It would have been impossible to run such a program without volunteers coming in to assist and families supporting their children to bring in the items they needed. Your support is so greatly appreciated.

Next term the grade 3 and 4 classes will be participating in the Kitchen Garden Program. More information regarding the focus of the program and volunteer opportunities will come out shortly.

Warm Regards,

Kate Fedele (Kitchen Garden)
