Class 1

This semester has been a very busy one for the students and staff members of class 1. Specific highlights have included our visit to MoPA where students enjoyed sensory, immersive, play based learning experiences. Students have especially enjoyed working with the specialist staff in bike ed., cooking, P.E. and art. Students have embraced our weekly music sessions with Kieran have been a highlight and have been beneficial for students’ social and communicative skills. Students have loved moving to the music, engaging with the instruments and exploring rhythmic activities.

We also loved celebrating Elenora’s birthday in May. In the classroom we have been looking at colours, communication and organisation. The gardening program has afforded students the opportunity to see vegetables growing and students have particularly enjoyed watering the garden. It is also exciting to use the therapy room on a regular basis whereupon we have used the equipment to enhance our gross motor skills where we have practised coordination, posture and balance. On a daily basis we work on trampolining, throwing and catching, walking and running and crawling. We have also placed an emphasis on play-based learning as an effective means of teaching new skills and fostering confidence and giving students an opportunity to engage in play activities of their interest and choice and to enhance ways for them to express themselves. Additionally, working with puzzles has helped with hand and eye coordination, scanning ability and patience. Looking forward to the semester ahead.
