Staff professional learning communities and best practice sharing

Ms Lisa Dunne

As part of our professional learning program at Greensborough College, our teachers have been working together in professional learning communities (PLCs) in Semester 1.

PLCs essentially allow teachers time and space to probe their teaching approaches and perform a collaborative research project about their pedagogical practice, with the goal of improving student outcomes.

In groups, teachers have considered how they can support an aspect of student improvement through designing and implementing highly effective and evidence-based teaching and learning strategies in their classrooms, with their students.

Teachers then evaluate the impact of the teaching and learning strategies they employed by assessing student growth data.

Teachers also share their research findings with the wider staff. This sharing allows us to celebrate the broad ranging knowledge and expertise of the staff at Greensborough College and provides inspiration to teachers as they innovate in their pedagogical approaches.

Here are some photos of our staff, earlier this term, as they recorded their new teaching and learning strategies in their curriculum documentation, for use with classes in the future.

PLC continues in Semester 2 at Greensborough College. Teachers will focus either on developing strategies to improve VCE outcomes, or methods to enhance the inclusion of students with ADHD, ASD, behavioural challenges, or dyslexia in classrooms at Greensborough College.

As teachers we encourage out students to become life-long learners. PLC is an excellent example of our teachers learning as they go.
