Wellbeing Report

Mr Nick Dimarco

We have had some exciting programs and celebrations that have happened this semester at Greensborough College.   Every Tuesday and Friday we have been running our breakfast club providing students with cheese toasties and morning chats to start their day, we look forward to continuing this for the rest of the year.

The Year 7 cohort engaged in our Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment (SASH) program in Term 2 that was run by our school nurse Jess during their Connect classes. The program touched on topics such as consent, what is sexual harassment and what is sexual assault. The program was really positive and all students were engaged throughout.

In Term 2 we introduced a new program lead by our Mental Health Practitioner Merinda and Youth Worker Meg called Calm Corner which runs on Thursday lunch times. This program has provided an opportunity for students to have a space to relax, practice mindfulness and complete craft activities while also engaging with their peers.

In conjunction with Rainbow Space, we acknowledged International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT). IDAHOBIT is on May 17th and it marks the day that the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from the classification of diseases. This is a day to celebrate LGBTQIA+ and recognise the ongoing struggles and discrimination faced by this community. We acknowledged IDAHOBIT by decorating the school, making badges, having a photo booth and running a quiz during lunchtime. This was an incredibly successful day and was nice to see so many people involved and having fun.

In June at Greensborough College, we celebrated Pride Month! International Pride Month is an annual LGBTQIA+ celebration held every June. It’s a chance to celebrate LGBTQIA+ pride and liberation, while also taking the time to recognise the work that still needs to be done, given the discrimination the queer community still faces. We celebrated this by decorating the school with the Pride Flags and posters to promote inclusivity within our school community.
