Speak up oral presentations

Ms Kami Gillick-Lewis

The Year 9 English cohort have recently completed their ‘Speak Up Oral Presentations’ pitched to persuade listeners to embrace a particular point of view.

Students worked on their persuasive language techniques as well as their writing. Students were encourage to adopt the role of the researcher who searches for knowledge to establish facts and opinions; the journalist who conducts independent studies by reading widely and collecting/analysing results and the reporter who presents, after engaging in research and conducting studies, a sophisticated, structured and informed presentation. With some OUTSTANDING presentations setting the benchmark high including Lily McKinlay and Jasmine Brown’s presentation advocating for a stop to domestic violence, it’s clear the year 9s are setting some aspirational goals for themselves in English this year. Well done!
