Leadership Report

Welcome back...

Welcome back to the start of the second half of the 2024 school year!

It is hard to believe that we are now into Term 3 and another school year is whizzing past.

During the week, I have been into all classes, welcomed students back to school and heard many exciting holiday stories.

This term is a significant time for consolidating, extending, and improving the learning that is happening for all students. All staff have been continuing to work collaboratively with planning and programming, developing engaging and rich learning opportunities in all classrooms.

As the term gets into full swing, your support and routines at home will be important in continuing our growth in learning for students.

NAPLAN - fantastic results again in 2024!

This week, our 2024 NAPLAN results arrived at school from ACARA (Australian Curriculum, Assessment, and Reporting Authority). As a school, we have again performed very well in Years 3 and 5, with our results continuing to hold in the 'Strong' Proficiency band for mean scale scores, with continued growth and improvement being seen. These results hold very strongly and often outperform similar schools and are above the national averages. This is a wonderful testament to all students, staff, and parents for achieving these results. Our work in partnership is making a significant difference and impact on the learning and lives of our students and your children. Well done, and congratulations!

The individual student results will be coming home to families next Wednesday.

National Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD)

Class teachers at Marion Primary School have been fervently developing packages to support the NCCD process. This is a mandatory, annual collection of information about our students with disabilities.

The NCCD enables schools, education authorities and governments to better understand the needs of students with disability and how they can be supported at school.

Data from the NCCD is used to:

  • give teachers, schools and sectors information about students with disability and the level of educational adjustment being provided
  • inform policy development and future planning to support students with disability
  • improve understanding of the requirements and responsibilities of school teams and the broader community under the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) and the standards
  • capture the work of schools under the obligations of the DDA and the standards, so that students with disability can access and participate in education on the same basis as other students
  • to support the needs of each student with disability by focusing on the level of educational support provided to them at school.

(Department for Education – Government of South Australia)

Students at Marion Primary School who have a diagnosis of disability and who are currently receiving a level of funding and/or are supported through our Quality Differentiated Teaching Practice (QDTP), Wave 2 programs (SAGE, MiniLit, MultiLit and What’s the Buzz) and/or individual, one-to-one programs will be included in this data collection.

The link below will provide you with additional information about the NCCD process.

If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to get in touch with your class teacher.

Library News

The library will now be open from 8:30 to 8:45am each morning to allow students to return books throughout the week. All borrowing of books will still be completed in their classes allocated library time each week.

The Olympics are upon us! Are you, as a family looking for some fun activities to participate in? If so, have a look at the following resource that you can access at home - the Have A Go Olympic Challenge. If you plan on submitting your score card, it needs to be entered by 12th August 2024.

Green and Gold Casual Day

We're turning Australia Green & Gold on Friday 2nd August, in support of the Australian Olympic Team.

‘Green & Gold Day’ is for everyone. The athletes, the fans, the businesses, the schools, the young, the old, and everything in between. It doesn’t matter who you are, your sporting ability, or your background, we believe sport has the power to unite us all.

This day is about painting the country in our national colours and being proud of Australia’s sporting achievements, it’s about all Australians coming together and celebrating the green and gold.

At Marion PS, we will be having a Casual Day in support of the Aussie Olympians. This will be a free casual day and no donation is required!

Get involved and show your support!

Till next time...

We look to a wonderful term ahead and continuing the learning and growth of all students. Thank you and have a great term!

Regards,
