Year 7 Immunisations

All parents and carers of Year 7 students should have now received a consent form regarding the City of Hobart Council’s Immunisation program. Immunisations will be provided to Year 7 students at the College on Wednesday 4 September. Year 7 students will receive the following vaccines:

  • Gardasil 9 Human papillomavirus (HPV) – one dose
  • Boostrix Diphtheria, Tetanus and Pertussis (whooping cough) dTpa – one dose

Consent forms need to be completed and returned to the College Office no later than Friday 5 July (last day of term). The consent forms need to be completed and returned even if your child will not be receiving the vaccines.

If you have any queries, please contact the College Office on 6216 7900.

Outside School Hours Care

We are excited to announce updates to our OSHC weekly program! Now, all families have the opportunity to access the program from home, allowing you to stay informed about each afternoon's activities. This update aims to foster positive conversations at home with your child about their experiences at Before and After School Care.

Additionally, we have enhanced our Early Learning Centre by dedicating a special room specifically for the OSHC students. Located in the front room of our building, this space is designed with appropriate furniture and engaging activities tailored to each age group, ensuring a relaxing and enjoyable environment after school.

This term, we've introduced popular activities such as loom bands, beads, art trolley and a fortnightly technology gaming day featuring our new Wii console, which has been a big hit with the children.

If you have any questions about our Before School Care and After School Care programs, please don't hesitate to contact Michelle Hughes via email or by calling the College on 6216 7920.

Family Information

This information is only relevant to families who receive CCS and attend Early Learning or OSHC programs.

Families facing tough times may get more child care support:

If you are facing difficult or challenging circumstances, you can sometimes get free child care. This is called Additional Child Care Subsidy, or ACCS. It usually covers all fees.

There are 4 types of ACCS:

  1. Child wellbeing: The child wellbeing subsidy is for families who need practical help to support their child’s safety and wellbeing. Your child care service applies for this on behalf of families. Families cannot apply.
  2. Grandparent: The grandparent subsidy is for grandparents on income support who are the primary carer of their grandchild.
  3. Temporary financial hardship: The temporary financial hardship subsidy is for families experiencing temporary, significant financial stress.
  4. Transition to work: The transition to work subsidy is for parents or carers transitioning to work from income support.

Except for ACCS child wellbeing, you apply on the Services Australia website or through your myGov account.

Enrolments are now open and bookings must be made by Monday 8 July 2024. To ensure adequate staffing of the program, bookings must be made. We may not be able to accommodate children who arrive at Holiday Care without a booking in place.

Bus Safety and Etiquette

We are very fortunate at Mount Carmel to have a number of excellent bus services that provide for safe and convenient transport to and from school and generally we can rely on our students to behave in a safe and courteous fashion on buses.  However, from time to time students and/or parents raise concerns about bus travel to and from school. Where these concerns relate to the behaviour of Mount Carmel students on buses, you are encouraged to contact any of the Heads of House or the Deputy Principal and parents/carers can be assured that these concerns will be followed up.  All Mount Carmel students sign a commitment to the Agreement in Support of Safer Transport, which appears on the Student Portal or via the link below. Any behaviour on buses that does not comply with these expectations will be addressed.

Where concern is expressed about the bus service itself, you are also very welcome to contact the College.  Your concerns may relate to safety issues such as a lack of seats available for students on buses or the inconvenience of routes or timetables. Any issues brought to our attention at the College will be conveyed to bus operators and a satisfactory outcome will be sought.

It is really important that students remain seated while any bus is in motion, and that they wear a seatbelt on buses where they are fitted.

Uniform Shop

Next Thursday, 27 June, the College Uniform Shop will only be open from 1:00pm until 3:00pm. Orders can still be placed via the Qkr app.

Secondhand Uniform Sales

Parents and carers are reminded that the College Office/Student Services is not to be used as an intermediary for the sale and trading of secondhand uniform items.

Parents and carers who buy and/or sell items through online platforms must make their own arrangements for facilitating the exchange and not use the College Office.
