Our school chess team comprising of Vincent B, Owen W, Jackson Q, and Samuel G represented the school in the fourth round of the New South Wales Junior Chess League against Newcastle Grammar School. It proved to be a brilliant match against formidable opposition. Each team member was at the top of their game and displayed an elevated level of concentration and determination. In the end each team won two games, but Newcastle Grammar School won the match on a countback. Our team should be immensely proud of their performance against very impressive opposition.
Our LEGO enthusiasts are busy completing our new kits. Thomas F has been building the Construction Excavator 60420. He has worked diligently, solving a range of engineering problems along the way. Building LEGO helps develop fine motor skills and keeps the brain active. Finally, LEGO gives students a rest from computers, and is fun and relaxing to build. We will gladly accept any donations of Lego or the instruction booklets.
The Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) is popular with our students. The PRC is not a competition but a challenge for each student to read more widely. The program involves 400,000 students and more than 2,600 government, non-government, and home schools. The PRC booklists open doors to a rich collection of children’s literature representing a range of books, including fiction, non-fiction, picture books, poetry, and a wide variety of Australian authors.
Successful candidates will receive a certificate if they read twenty books, including up to ten books of their own choice. Please email Mr Boyce on andrew.boyce@mn.catholic.edu.au if you wish to register. The library has a range of PRC titles available for loan.
After sixteen rounds the NRL Footy Tipping competition has proven to be quite competitive. Tips can be filled out at the library by 3.15pm on Thursdays or emailed before kick-off Thursday night.
