Student Wellbeing & Mental Health

From the Wellbeing Zone 🌿
Every Day Counts
At Lysterfield Primary School, we know that students are most likely to thrive when they feel connected, supported and engaged in their learning. One of the key factors that helps make this possible is regular school attendance.
When students attend school consistently, they have the opportunity to build strong relationships, establish routines, develop confidence and stay connected to their learning. Every school day provides valuable opportunities to learn new skills, practise previously taught concepts, collaborate with peers and participate in the many experiences that make school such an important part of childhood.
We also recognise that this time of year often brings an increase in coughs, colds and other illnesses. There will always be times when students need to stay home to rest and recover, and we appreciate families making these decisions when their child is unwell.
At the same time, every day of learning matters. Even occasional absences can add up over time and may impact a student's learning, friendships, confidence and sense of belonging. Missing just one day per fortnight can equate to approximately four weeks of learning across a school year.
Regular attendance helps students remain connected to the rhythm of school life. They are more likely to feel confident in their learning, maintain friendships, participate in classroom experiences and develop the skills that support both academic and social success.
At LPS, we believe that strong partnerships between home and school make a significant difference. If your family is experiencing challenges that are impacting your child's attendance, please reach out to your child's classroom teacher or a member of our Mental Health and Wellbeing Team. Whether the concern relates to wellbeing, friendships, learning, anxiety, family circumstances or school routines, we are here to work alongside you. Often, early conversations allow us to put supports in place and help students feel connected, successful and ready to learn.
Together, we can help every student make the most of the opportunities each school day provides.
Here are a bunch of photos with one thing in common - LPS students being happy, learning and having fun at school!
Have a fantastic weekend!

Term 2 Dr Justin Coulson Live Event - Boys: Building Strong Young Men From The Inside Out - Wednesday 17 June @ 7pm - access is free for our whole school community
(If you sign up you will receive a link to watch the recording after the event - at a time that suits you!)
He’s disappearing. Behind the closed door, lost in screens, making choices that keep you up at night. He’s navigating a world designed to confuse him – algorithms designed to addict him – a world parents don’t understand and can’t break into. The headlines scream crisis. They warn us that boys are in deep trouble… and it’s getting worse.
But it doesn’t have to be like this.
Dr Justin Coulson has a different story to tell. In the webinar Boys, Justin reveals what decades of research suggests: when boys get what they actually need, they thrive. Not through force or fixing, but through connection, meaningful challenge, and someone who refuses to give up on them.
This presentation hands you the ‘Playbook’. It cuts through the noise with practical, research-backed strategies for the battles you’re fighting right now. Gaming. Pornography. Self-control. Friendships. School motivation. How to discipline without destroying trust. How to stay close when he’s pushing away.
But beneath the tactics lies something more powerful: a vision of masculinity worth fighting for. Boys who help others feel safer and stronger. Who create surplus value. Who become not just good men, but the best version of themselves. Your son already has everything he needs to get there.
