From the Principal

Dear Families,
Please make sure you read the Learning and Teaching page for an informative piece by Mrs Roose.
I hope everyone has had a fantastic week. As I write this, the sun is shining, and it certainly doesn't look like winter, although the temperature says otherwise.
Hiking Program
Last week, our hiking group completed the second of their two major hikes, bringing our inaugural hiking program to a successful conclusion.
The program was introduced as an alternative to Winter Round Robin Sport and provided students with the opportunity to challenge themselves physically, spend time outdoors, build resilience, and enjoy the company of their peers in a different setting. Throughout the program, students developed their fitness and confidence while exploring some of the beautiful natural environments in our local area.
I was fortunate to join the students on both hikes and was incredibly proud of the way they supported one another, demonstrated perseverance, and embraced every challenge with a positive attitude. Their efforts were a wonderful reflection of our school values and the Pegasus Spirit.
We hope this experience has inspired students to continue exploring the outdoors and perhaps even discover a new hobby that they can enjoy with family and friends.
School Toilet Upgrade
We are pleased to let our community know that works to upgrade our school toilets will be commencing soon.
As part of the project, there will be some disruption to the area surrounding the gym toilets. During the upgrade, students will use the external toilet facilities located adjacent to the bike shed.
At this stage, we are awaiting confirmation of the construction timeline and expect to be able to share further details with families by the end of next week. We anticipate that works will begin over the school holidays, although the external toilets may come into use prior to the end of term as preparations for the project get underway.
We appreciate the community's patience and understanding while these important improvements are completed. The upgrade will provide improved facilities for our students and help ensure our learning environment continues to meet the needs of our school.
School Review – Reminder
Next week, Lysterfield Primary School will undertake our School Review. School reviews occur every four years and provide an opportunity to celebrate our achievements, reflect on our progress, and identify priorities that will help shape the next phase of our school’s improvement journey.
As part of the review process, the review panel will meet with students, staff and parents, observe learning across the school, and consider a range of evidence about our performance and growth over the past four years.
Thank you to the parents and carers who have volunteered to participate in the parent forum. Your feedback and perspectives are an important part of the review process and will help inform the development of our next Strategic Plan.
We look forward to sharing the outcomes of the review with our community later in the year.
Schools for our future
In March this year, the AEU launched Australia’s first national inquiry into public school infrastructure, marking the beginning of a nationwide conversation with public school communities to help ensure every child and young person can learn in a safe, modern and inclusive public school.
The Schools for Our Future Inquiry, chaired by former ACTU President Sharan Burrow, is examining the current state of public school infrastructure across Australia, identifying future needs, and considering long-term funding and policy reforms to support future-ready public schools in every community.
Submissions Now Open
The inquiry is seeking submissions from students, teachers, principals, education support staff, parents and carers, governments, organisations, and individuals with an interest in education and the future of public schools.
Individuals can make a submission here: Make a Submission – Schools for Our Future
Submissions will remain open until 30 June 2026.
Have a fantastic weekend.
Adam Wight
Principal
