Attendance: Every

day counts

Regular school attendance is one of the most important contributors to a young person's success at school and beyond. School attendance is compulsory for children and young people aged 6 to 17 years unless an exemption from attendance or enrolment has been granted.

Attending school every day provides students with far more than academic learning. Regular attendance helps students build positive relationships with peers and teachers, develop social and emotional skills, establish healthy routines, and maintain a strong sense of belonging within the school community. Students who attend school consistently are more likely to achieve positive educational outcomes, complete Year 12 or an equivalent qualification, and experience improved employment, health and wellbeing outcomes throughout their lives.

Conversely, frequent absences can make it difficult for students to keep pace with their learning, maintain friendships and fully participate in school life. Even occasional absences can accumulate over time, resulting in missed learning opportunities and increased challenges in re-engaging with classroom programs.

At Warrandyte High School, we are pleased to report continued improvement in student attendance:

  • 2025: 83% of students achieved attendance of 80% or above.
  • 2026: 87% of students currently have attendance of 80% or above.

This improvement reflects the shared commitment of our students, families and staff to ensuring that every student is present, engaged and ready to learn.

Thank you to our families for supporting regular attendance and helping students establish positive habits that will benefit them throughout their schooling and into the future. Every day at school provides valuable opportunities for learning, growth and connection.
