Spotlight on Curriculum

Dear Parents and Carers,

We’re excited to launch a new series of weekly newsletter updates that shine a spotlight on the curriculum and teaching at our school. Each week, we’ll share insights, resources, and practical ideas to help you stay informed and engaged with what your child is learning. With new syllabuses being introduced across key subjects, we’re committed to keeping our school community up-to-date and involved every step of the way.

This week, we’re focusing on the Human Society and its Environment (HSIE) syllabus, which we have already begun teaching from Kindergarten to Year 6. This updated syllabus offers a rich and engaging learning experience covering history, geography, Aboriginal cultures, and Australia’s development as a nation.

To support your child’s learning at home, we’re pleased to share two helpful guides from the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). These guides explain what students will be learning in HSIE and offer practical ideas, such as reading together, exploring maps, learning about local Aboriginal languages and culture, and discussing important events and community contributions.

By using these resources, you can play an active role in enriching your child’s education and making their school experience even more meaningful.
