From the Principal Team

Boori Monty Prior
The highlight of this week was welcoming Boori Monty Pryor to our school. Through storytelling, discussion and cultural learning experiences, students were encouraged to reflect on identity, history, connection and community. Students had the opportunity for dancing while he played the yidaki and took part in a retelling of his picture book 'Shake a Leg.'
Opportunities like these help deepen our understanding and strengthen our commitment to reconciliation. Thank you to Lisa McLeish for organising this experience for our students.
Kids View Conference
On Wednesday, our Grade 6 students participated in the KidsView Conference. The KidsView Conference provides students with the opportunity to hear firsthand from young people from the Philippines who have overcome the challenges of extreme poverty and are now inspiring leaders within their communities. Through sharing their personal stories, our students develop a deeper understanding of the impact poverty can have on children around the world, while also highlighting the importance of resilience, hope and education. Thank you to the Grade 6 team for organising this experience for our students.
Fete Fundraising
As part of the school’s commitment to maintaining a balanced 25/75% split between short- and long-term projects, the following short-term initiatives will be funded through fete fundraising proceeds. These projects were approved by School Council last night and represent a balanced allocation of funds across key priority areas, including grounds improvement, diversity and inclusion (D&I) and First Nations perspectives.
The projects have been selected to enhance student engagement, wellbeing and inclusion, while also supporting the ongoing development of school facilities and spaces.
Provision of portable soccer goals for the South Oval to support active play and student engagement during recess and lunchtime. The portable goals will provide greater flexibility, allowing staff to rotate playing locations and reduce excessive wear on the turf.
Purchase of outdoor storage boxes, sandpit toys and shared sports equipment to further enhance opportunities for inclusive and active play across a range of age groups and interests.
Installation of outdoor sensory and educational pathway paintings in the courtyard at the rear of the Learning Centre. These interactive spaces will support student wellbeing, movement, sensory regulation and playful learning through activities such as hopping, balancing, counting and movement prompts.
Commissioning of foyer artwork by Simone Thomson, creating a welcoming and culturally inclusive feature within the school environment that reflects the school’s commitment to acknowledging and celebrating First Nations perspectives and culture.
Installation of additional bike and scooter racks to further support active travel, ensuring bikes and scooters can be securely parked in designated areas.
- Completion of the Indigenous Biodiversity Garden, including the installation of a boardwalk and stepping stones leading to the yarning circle.
Global Parents Day Breakfast
On Monday morning, we look forward to celebrating Global Parents Day with our school community. Our inaugural Global Parents Day Breakfast will take place from 7:30am–8:45am, providing families with the opportunity to come together and connect before the start of the school day.
Families will be able to purchase a range of hot food, drinks and pastries, with a variety of activities and equipment also available for families to enjoy together.
To ensure you don’t miss out, food can be pre-ordered via QKR! Pre-orders will close at 12:00pm on Sunday, with additional food available for purchase on the day until sold out.
Have a lovely weekend.

Gaga Pit Rules
It has been wonderful to see so many families making use of the Gaga Pit before and after school. To support families in helping their child/ren understand the rules and how to play the game safely and respectfully, we have included a list of rules below for your reference.
- 8 players start inside the pit, each holding onto the edge. One player stands in the middle and throws the ball into the air.
- All remaining players wait in a line around the Gaga Pit.
- When the ball bounces once, everyone calls out “Ga.”
- When the ball bounces twice, everyone calls out “GaGa” and the game begins. Players may hit the ball with an open hand to try and eliminate other players.
- If the ball hits a player on the waist or below, that player is out.
- If a player hits the ball out of the pit, they are out.
- Players cannot pick up or catch the ball.
- Players cannot kick the ball. Kicking counts as below-the-waist contact and results in being out.
- When a player is out, they must exit through the entrance and the next player in line rotates into the pit.
- Players waiting in line must not push in or skip others.
- Nobody should sit, stand, or climb on the walls of the Gaga Pit.
- Players who are out may rejoin the game by waiting their turn in line again.
- Remmeber getting out is part of the game, so being honest and accepting it is vital for the game to be fair for everyone.
Kind regards,
Paul
