Principal's Message

Welcome back to our Mill Park Heights Community

Today, on June 1st, we are celebrating “Say something Nice Day” at MPHPS. What a beautiful way to begin the new month and what a lovely focus for our staff, students and community to consider. I remember being told as I was growing up, “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say it at all,” and I feel this was a great reminder today. Too often we get mixed up in the emotions of frustration and annoyance that can lead to criticism and negativity. It’s great to change our thinking narrative and remind ourselves and others to find something nice to say. Thank you and gratitude certainly goes a long way. Hopefully our special focus today can become our constant normal.

This past week we celebrated Education Week. We held our School Council, celebrated our Education Support Staff with an appreciation morning tea, our Year 6 students enjoyed 3 days on Camp, our Year 3 /4 students participated in a first aid incursion and our Foundation students went off to Bundoora Farm. We had many students cashing in their reward points and made announcements to the school, supported the secret line up judging and spent time with the Principal Team as an Assistant Principal for an hour. All these amazing opportunities add to the classroom learning and highlight the incredible things that happen daily that often become unrecognised and uncelebrated. They are understood to be part of the fabric of school and are seen as an expectation and the norm. I would like to highlight and show my gratitude to the MPHPS staff team who work incredibly hard to build social cohesion amongst students and with parents/ carers. These relationships often lead to the building of friendships and encourages respect for cultures and other people’s perspectives.  The work we do in the background aims to support and strengthen the great work you do as families within our community.

We have had terrific numbers in our school tours, and enrolments for 2027 have already started coming in. If you have a sibling joining us, or if you have recommended MPHPS to a family friend, I encourage you to collect your enrolment forms from the office or via our website.  This enrolment information helps plan for classes in 2027. While this seems incredibly early, we do begin planning for staffing in Term 3 each year. If you would like to join a school tour on a Thursday morning at 9.30am, don’t hesitate to make a booking. If this time doesn’t work, you are welcome to contact the office with a request, and we will get back to you.

We hope you all have a wonderful fortnight.
