STEM

Prep - In Term Two, students are focusing on chemical sciences - the study of substances. They will be investigating what objects are made of. During the last two weeks, students have continued discussing properties of materials with a focus on heavy versus light. They have demonstrated their understanding of both materials and their properties through investigation of common classroom objects.
Year 1/2s - In Term Two, students are focusing on physical sciences - the study of non-living things. They will be investigating sound energy and how different sounds are produced. During the last two weeks, students have used their sense of hearing to listen for different sounds and identify the volume and pitch of different sounds. They have participated in a hands on investigation where they strummed different types of rubber bands to hear the different sounds they made.
Year 3/4s - In Term Two, students are focusing on physical sciences - the study of non-living things. They will be investigating heat energy and how it is generated and transferred. During the last two weeks, students have conducted investigations to show how heat can transfer from one object over a period of time, showing that not all heat sources will transfer the same amount of heat.
Year 5/6s - In Term Two, students are focusing on physical sciences - the study of non-living things. They will be investigating light energy and how it travels and changes. During the last two weeks, students have focused on the reflection and absorption of light by different materials. They have used their senses to identify objects that both reflect and absorb light, and have started investigating reflections using mirrors.
