Principal's Report
It was a great honour for our school to be asked to present at the statewide Principal Conference. We have had some wonderful feedback from the Principal’s that came to our session. Our buddy video was very popular with lots of schools saying they loved the idea and want to copy it. A big thank you to Rachael Cantwell and Jess Howe for making me look good and for again advancing Woori Yallock’s standing in the educational world.

Every year when I have my first grade six leaders meeting. They always ask, “when is the school disco?” It demonstrates how much they love the disco. The disco went well with lots of fun had by all in attendance.
A big thanks to our parent and friends club for putting on the event. Jaz Malone and Jade Vassallo are amazing with the amount of work they do for the disco. Also a big thanks to the teachers and our teacher aides that supported the disco.

There was an offer accepted by the AEU two weeks ago, this will be voted on by staff next week. This does however, mean that the ban on report comments is still in place. Parents will still receive a report with a mark showing students progress/capability. But will not have any comments. You may hear that other schools are providing report comments, this will only happen in schools where a majority of the staff are not AEU members.
Any parents worried about their child’s progress can email their teacher to set up a meeting.
Our 5/6 students recently worked on History projects where they created an audio book, including a voice over with matching illustrations or images. This was part of their historical fiction unit where they had researched a key event in history. I would have loved a project like this when I was at school.
The 3/4 students worked on a history exhibition and had an open morning. I was so impressed with what I saw and the knowledge the students had learnt about their topic.

Today’s colour run went really well with lots of fun and laughter as the students navigated the course while getting coloured. I do have to apologise for sending home so many very colourful but dirty children. All in the name of good fun and the school profits from it too. A total win, win. Well done to Mr Gibbons who organises the run every year.
We have lots of kids that do sport outside of school, but I do want to mention our current grade 3 boys, after school basketball team. They are doing really well and have a semi final against Mt Evelyn this coming Monday, I wish them well. However, the reason I’m really so proud of them is because they have demonstrated wonderful sportsmanship, helping teams that are developing and always playing fairly with manners. Well done boys, as said by one of the founders of the Olympics, the most important thing is not winning but taking part; the essential thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle, Pierre de Coubertin
Well done boys for representing our school so well.

When I write about the Blues in the newsletter, I normally don’t get everything right. But in the last newsletter I did mention that the gathering storm (the Carlton FC) would beat Geelong, which they did. It is four in a row but unfortunately this week is a bye week for Carlton. Lucky for the rest of the competition!
Have a great weekend!
See you around the school,
Oliver Thockloth
Principal
