STEM Update
It has been another busy and exciting term in STEM, with students across the school developing their scientific understanding, problem-solving skills, and creativity through hands-on investigations and design challenges.
Our Foundation students have been learning about daily and seasonal weather patterns, including common weather symbols and what they represent. Building on this knowledge, students are now using Blue-Bots to communicate simple weather forecasts, combining their understanding of weather with early coding skills.
Year 1 and 2 students have also been exploring daily and seasonal weather patterns and investigating how weather influences the clothing people wear. They are now applying their learning through a design challenge where they are making, testing, and improving wind-powered cars. Students are learning the importance of perseverance as they evaluate and refine their designs to improve performance.
In Years 3 and 4, students have been investigating the water cycle and the processes that move water around our planet. They have now begun exploring different climate types and examining both natural and human causes of climate change. Using this knowledge, students are designing creative solutions that respond to the impacts of climate change, encouraging them to think critically about real-world environmental challenges.
Our Year 5 and 6 students have been learning about weathering and erosion and the ways these geological processes shape Earth's surface over time. They are currently applying their coding and engineering skills by programming and improving the functionality of a wind-measuring tool using LEGO Spike kits. Through testing and refinement, students are developing their understanding of how technology can be used to collect and analyse environmental data.
It has been wonderful to see students demonstrating curiosity, creativity, and resilience as they tackle new challenges and continue developing their STEM skills.
