Principal's Message

Dear St Joseph’s Families,

Dear St Joseph’s Families,

Welcome to our Week 7 newsletter! It is hard to believe we are already past the halfway mark of Term 2.

Catholic Schools Week

To kick off the Armidale Catholic Schools Week celebrations last week, our school leaders traveled to Moree to represent St Joseph's at the Catholic Schools Week Deanery Mass. They represented our school with immense pride, reverence, and distinction. It was a beautiful service that connected our students with the wider church and school communities across our region.

Classroom Celebrations & Reflections

Our students spent the week diving into what makes our school community so special, reflecting heavily on this year's theme of "A Hope-Filled Future."

  • Stage 3: Why We Love St Joseph's Our senior students engaged in some deep discussions about what our school means to them. They were asked the question: "Why do I love being a part of St Joseph's Catholic School, Walgett?" The responses were absolutely beautiful, highlighting the kindness of their peers, the support of their teachers, and the strong sense of family they feel every day when they walk through the gates.
  • Stage 2: Looking Ahead Focusing closely on the CSW theme, Stage 2 looked toward tomorrow. They explored their own personal futures and aspirations, sharing their dreams for what they want to achieve and the kind of people they hope to become. It is clear we have some incredibly bright, ambitious minds in Stage 2!
  • Stage 1: Artworks of Hope Stage 1 brought the theme of a hope-filled future to life through creativity. They worked hard on stunning artworks that visualised brightness, joy, and hope. Their colorful creations are a wonderful reminder of the optimism our youngest learners bring to school each day.
  • Kindergarten: Our Catholic School Family Our youngest learners spent some time discovering what it means to be part of a big, faithful community. They learned all about our own St Joseph's Walgett family, as well as our wider connection to the Armidale Catholic schools community. To celebrate, they did a wonderful job coloring in some beautiful artworks that showcase their school spirit.

Thank you to all the staff and students who made Catholic Schools Week so memorable, and to you, our families, for your continued support in making St Joseph's such a wonderful place to grow and learn.

Eisteddfod Success!

We would like to extend a massive congratulations to two of our wonderful students who recently travelled and participated in the Narrabri Eisteddfod. Both students competed in the speech and drama sections, showcasing incredible courage and talent:

  • Alice recited poetry beautifully and received 1st place for her recital!
  • Grace recited two different poems, placing in both with a fantastic 2nd and 3rd place!

Standing up on a stage to recite poetry from memory takes a lot of practice and bravery. We are incredibly proud of both of you—well done!

Staffing Update: Welcome

We would like to extend a very warm St Joseph's welcome to Miss Kate Frazier who is joining our teaching team for the next three weeks while Mrs Logan is away on leave.  Miss Frazier will be working in all classrooms over the three weeks. It is wonderful to have her with us, and we know our students, families, and staff will make Miss Frazier feel right at home in the Walgett community.

Open Classrooms

We are excited to invite parents and carers back into our school next Wednesday, 10th of June from 10:15-11:00am  for our Open Classrooms! This is a fantastic opportunity to come in, see the incredible teaching and learning happening first-hand, and sit alongside your children to help and share in their learning process. We love welcoming our community into the rooms, and the kids cannot wait to show you what they've been working on.

The Scholastic Book Fair is Coming!

Get ready for some reading excitement—our annual Book Fair is on all next week! The theme for this year's fair is Dino-Mite - Stomp, Chomp and Read.

To give everyone plenty of time to browse, the school library will be open Tuesday 9th June to Monday 15th June. To allow both students and parents to purchase some lovely new books to take home, the Library will be open before school from 8:30-8:50, Lunch from 11:40-12:10, Recess from 1:30-2:00 and after school from 3:00-4:00.
