Teaching and Learning

 Term 4

It has been a year filled with so many wonderful opportunities, events and achievements that are to be widely celebrated across our school community. It has been such a privilege to hear student reflections of their experiences at Concord through the grade 6 and year 12 graduation ceremonies. Highlights shared from the 7/8 Spectacular, class presentations, music class, the colour run and the abundance of fun had at different camps and excursions over the years that bring such fond memories to our students.

Beyond Year 12 graduation we are always so thrilled to hear about how students are tracking with their post school pathways. Recently we were lucky enough to have a previous Concord School student visit the school. Daniel Nicholson graduated Concord School in 2011 and had a goal for open employment. Daniel is thrilled to have secured a job at Kmart with the support of Job Support. Daniel says “My favourite thing about my job is helping the customers and seeing all the regulars and asking about their day. I love being around all the other staff, because they are all so friendly”. Congratulations Daniel!

This year, we have worked collectively towards the 2023 school goals as planned in our Annual Implementation Plan (AIP). A major focus was for the whole school staff to participate in the Berry Street Education Model training. This professional development equips staff with practical, classroom-based strategies to increase the engagement of all students. The model enables schools to support students’ self-regulation, relationships, and wellbeing to increase student engagement and significantly improve academic achievement. Staff are excited to continue their learning next year as the school has completed two of the four allocated training days, with the final two planned for 2024.

Supporting our 2024 AIP and future plans ahead, Concord will participate in its four yearly review, this process involves an external reviewer to come assist the leadership team to reflect on the previous four years against the School’s Strategic Plan. Following this there are four days allocated where the reviewer will lead a panel made up of Concord and Department staff to interview our community, observe teaching practice and plan our goals for the school for the next four years. When this process begins, we will communicate the findings and the new strategic plan.

We would like to thank the school community for making Concord the great place that it is!

Have a safe and wonderful holiday break with family and friends.

Take care,
