Professional Learning Community 1 (Grade 1)

Congratulations to all Grade 1 students on their amazing achievements during assessment weeks. The students tackled each assessment with an ‘I can attitude’, resulting in lots of individual goals being achieved and students demonstrating their personal best. We are all very proud of our students.

This week, students have enjoyed splashing around in swimming lessons. Students have been practising torpedes, blowing bubbles and learning how to be safe around water. They have done a really good job walking safely to the pool and back, and following instructions. Swimming has brought so much excitement and joy into our classrooms.

During Numeracy, students have been participating in the Numero Championships. It has been wonderful to see students using their numeracy understandings and problem solving skills while playing, along with witnessing the joy and excitement Numero brings to the students.

As we begin to wind down on an amazing year in Grade 1, students still have a number of exciting experiences to look forward to.

Professional Learning Community 2 (Grade 2)

Hello, Grade 2 Families and Friends,

All students have been busy over the past fortnight, working to the best of their ability on a range tasks, throughout Assessment Weeks. It has been fantastic to see students’ progression and growth across different areas of the curriculum. Congratulations Grade 2s, your dedication to work to your personal best was on full display, your teachers are extremely proud of the effort you all put in.

Throughout assessment weeks, students explored a range of purposeful learning activities. In Reading, students selected their favourite book and created a book review, stating their opinions on the text and giving it a rating out of 5 stars. In Writing, there were several different creative writing prompts that students were exposed to, with many enjoying the changing of a Fairly Tale ending. Throughout our Numeracy blocks, there were a number of hands-on games/challenges, allowing students to use number strategies to problem solve.

This week, excitement is in the air as we look forward to our Numero Championship. All students will have the opportunity to practise, challenge themselves and compete against one another. It will be great to see all students trying to complete their best ‘takes’ to gain an advantage on their opponent.

Professional Learning Community 3 (Grade 3)

Congratulations to everyone for making it through our 2 weeks of assessment. Your hard work and personal best efforts will allow your teachers to see all the wonderful things you’ve learnt this year and let your 2024 teachers know how they can best help you continue to grow next year!

This term Grade 3 students have been exploring light, shadows and space in PBL. We were lucky enough to enjoy an incursion this week where we learnt lots of incredible things about our solar system!

In Reading we have begun some book clubs in which students were able to choose a magazine filled with many different text types and will discuss these with other members of their group.

This week in Writing we are again focusing on the topic of space and will be writing some descriptive narratives about an astronomical adventure in outer space!

In Numeracy we have revisited the rules of the game ‘Numero’ and will be playing through several rounds to eventually crown our class Numero Champion.

With only 4 weeks to go we hope we can finish the year off on a high note and continue to see lots of kindness in the classrooms and outside in the yard!

Professional Learning Community 4 (Grade 4)

Dear Parents/Carers,

PLC4 teachers are as proud as punch after analysing students’ assessment results from the previous few weeks of testing. Some amazing achievements have been made with academic growth shown. We are currently using our data to help write reports and provide comments that will be available on Compass at the end of the year.

We've had a blast in Numeracy, we've been putting our mental strategies of the four operations into good practice with our class championships for Numero this week. It is lovely to observe the tremendous sportsmanship the students have, shaking hands and thanking their partner for playing. Congratulations to all students from 4A, 4B and 4C.

Time is flying by… TICK TICK TICK! Soon our Grade 4 students grow wings and depart for the Grade 5 nest. It is nice to talk about what to expect next year in Grade 5 – what will be different? How are you feeling about going into Grade 5? Why do you feel like that?

Students were asked to give one word to describe this year and here is what they said; ‘COOL, AWESOME, FUN, EXTRAODINARY, MAGNIFICANT, UNFORGETABLE, EXCEPTIONAL, AMAZING’.

Have a great week!

PLC 4 Teachers

Professional Learning Community 5 (Grade 5)

I would like to congratulate students in PLC 5 on all of their hard work throughout Assessment Weeks. Everyone should be extremely proud of all they have achieved this year and it was the perfect opportunity for students to really showcase this. We have also just begun our Numero Competition where students battle it out in their classrooms to find the class champion. From here students then make it through to the PLC 5/6 Championships where they then crown the victor of the senior cohort. This is a very exciting opportunity for students to once again celebrate all of their hard work and perhaps win an award. In writing this week students have made a start on creating a narrative about space, exposing students to a range of Tier 3 vocabulary that they can incorporate into their writing.

We are also very lucky to have the opportunity to begin to mentor the younger students in Garden classes over the next 3 weeks to assist them in becoming familiar with common practices and showing them around the space. Students are looking forward to taking on this mentoring role as it is a fantastic occasion to demonstrate their skills before leadership positions are decided in the coming weeks. Speaking of School Captain Applicants, we take this opportunity to congratulate everyone who’s put their name forward and we wish students the best of luck next week in their Speeches! The same goes for our EBT students, we have seen all of the hard work that they have put in and we can’t wait to hear stories of their adventures.

That’s a wrap from us in PLC 5, have a glorious week!
