Principal Message

Term 4 - Week 8 - Friday 24th November

Dear Mitcham Primary School Community,

I am excited to share with you some beautiful highlights of events that have unfolded over the past fortnight at our wonderful school. Mitcham Primary continues to thrive as a hub of learning, laughter, and community spirit.

Firstly, our Roller Skating Kids Social Night was an immense success, providing an evening of joy and family fun. It was heartwarming to witness students, parents, and teachers gliding across the rink, creating lasting memories together. These events truly strengthen the bonds that make our school community special. I would lie to extend a huge thank you to MPS Dad, Wally Chiang, for all his efforts in organising this fun activity.

Our Cycle 3 students embarked on a captivating excursion to the Old Melbourne Gaol, delving into the rich history of our city. This immersive experience not only complemented their curriculum but also ignited a passion for learning beyond the classroom.

Meanwhile, many of our Grade 5/6 students ventured to Phillip Island for a thrilling surfing adventure. The waves of Phillip Island provided the perfect backdrop for team building and skill development, showcasing the resilience and determination of our students.

On another aquatic note, our Prep, Grade 1, and Grade 2 students enthusiastically participated in the Swimming Program. It was heartening to see our youngest learners gaining confidence in the water.

On Wednesday evening we extended a warm welcome to families who attended our 2024 Prep and Grade 1 Montessori Parent Information Evening. We are thrilled to have them join our community and look forward to the exciting journey ahead.

In other news, our whole school transition program is in full swing. Students have begun moving rooms, stepping up to their 2024 grade, and familiarising themselves with new classrooms and teachers. Two more whole school transition afternoons are planned before our final 'Meet your 2024 Class' day on December 12th. These experiences ensure a smooth transition and foster a sense of belonging for our students.

As we reflect on these events, it is clear that Mitcham Primary School is not just a place of academic growth but a community that values shared experiences and the holistic development of our students. Thank you to all who contributed to the success of these events, and I look forward to the continued success and growth of our Mitcham Primary School community, and especially next Tuesday evening’s Fathering Project and our Community Evening happening on Tuesday 5th December.

COVID 19

There is at present an increase in community transmission of COVID-19 in Victoria.

You can help us keep our school as safe as possible by taking 2 important steps:

1.    Ensure your COVID-19 vaccinations are up to date. Information on how and where to get vaccinated is available on the

2.  If your child shows symptoms of COVID-19, please ensure they stay home and get tested. The easiest way to test is to use a rapid antigen test (RAT). Free RATs are available from your local council where you can collect 2 packs of 5 RATs and an extra 2 packs for each person in your household. People with disability and their carers can get 4 packs of 5 RATs. You are not required to have a Medicare card and you can collect RATs as many times as you need. You can also buy RATs at supermarkets, pharmacies and other retailers.

If your child has symptoms but tests negative, please ensure they stay home until they no longer have symptoms.

If the RAT test result is positive, please ensure they stay home for at least 5 days and until there are no more symptoms.

Thank you for your support – these steps will help us all stay well.

Wishing all families, a wonderful weekend!

Warmly,

Erin
