Last Monday most of our secondary students enjoyed a rare opportunity—a visit to Devils Gate Hydro Plant. Only open to the public for a maximum of 10 days a year, our students explored the plant's inner workings, witnessing the remarkable power of water as a renewable energy source.
Students observed how logs and debris are efficiently removed to ensure a smooth flow through the hydro turbines, a crucial step in power generation. Then we ventured deeper, students explored the heart of the turbines and learned about the Buzz bars, Turbine, and Electromagnets. This hands-on experience shed light on the technology behind turning water into a sustainable source of electricity. The visit left students inspired as they witnessed the significant electricity generated from water, highlighting the importance of renewable energy in our changing world. We finished the day off with lunch at the dam.
