Design and Technology in Grade 4/5

Grade 4/5 students have been eagerly designing and creating their very own arcade games for our final unit. This unit looks at designing and technology. Students will also consider the materials, components, tools, equipment and processes needed to create designed solutions. It is a fun hands-on unit to end the year. We kicked off with an excursion to the Hobart Intencity which is a centre full of Arcade games where students had an opportunity to experience a range of games. Teachers have been working hard to ask questions and encourage deeper investigation and higher order thinking such as:

  • ‘What is it about this game that attracts people to play it?’
  • ‘Are there similarities between  games?’
  • ‘What can I learn from this to apply to my design?’

Students have now completed their research and are putting their plan into action. There is a lot of hustling and bustling with bits of cardboard extending throughout the classrooms.
