SCC Arts Night Showcase

As we reflect on another remarkable semester within the Arts Faculty, we are filled with pride and gratitude for the incredible talents displayed by our students. Week 4 was truly a spectacle of creativity, passion, and dedication as our students took the stage and presented their craft in the much-anticipated "SCC Arts Night Showcase."

The evening was a celebration of artistic expression, featuring phenomenal performances and presentations across various disciplines. The music elective classes and our school Rock Band delivered tuneful and awe-inspiring performances that resonated with the audience. The drama elective classes showcased captivating acting performances that left a lasting impression on all who attended. Additionally, the art elective students wowed us with their beautifully designed and intricate art pieces, demonstrating their creative prowess.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the students who participated and shared their remarkable talents with us this year. Your commitment to excellence and dedication to your craft have truly enriched our school community.

Special recognition goes to Mrs Adams-Bell, Mrs Vanderplas, and Mr Nguyen for their tireless efforts in guiding and nurturing our students in the Arts. Their passion and commitment to fostering a positive and encouraging environment have played a pivotal role in the success of the showcase.

What was truly heartening to witness was the incredible peer support and genuine camaraderie among our students. The authentic feelings of encouragement and joy as they witnessed their peers excel were a testament to the positive culture we strive to cultivate at our school. We are proud to see our students not only showcasing their talents but also actively supporting and uplifting each other. This spirit of camaraderie reflects the love of Jesus Christ and exemplifies the kindness and generosity that defines our school community.

A sincere thank you to all the parents and friends who joined us to support our budding artists and performers. Your presence and encouragement mean a great deal and contributes to the nurturing atmosphere that defines Southern Christian College.

As we continue to celebrate the achievements of our students in the Arts, we look forward to the upcoming term with anticipation and excitement. May the spirit of creativity and collaboration continue to flourish among our students, reflecting the light of Christ in all that they do.

Blessings,

SCC Arts Faculty

Art Class News

For Term 4 the Grade 7 class has been focusing on Martin Escher, the great graphic artist/mathematician. While researching his life, artwork and patterns, students have created a number of tessellations to create their own patterned artwork. In the last weeks of this term they will be carving their own printing block from their tessellation and repeating the shapes, creating interesting patterns of colour and intrigue.

The Grade 8 class is also exploring printmaking, using the gel plates and doodling for a layered effect as well as the monoprint trace method with a watercolour finish. They have been busy trialling the skills and depicted below are examples of their explorations. Their final pieces will take a couple of weeks to complete yet but we look forward to their skills, showcasing these creative endeavours.

The Grade 9 class has also explored the gel plate printing method as well as etching from their drawing and image banks of ideas around the theme of homes/built environments and architecture.

The Grade 10 class in their last term has had the freedom to choose their own subject, medium and message about how “Beauty Matters”.  From acrylic paintings to collagraph and lino block printing, to sculptural art and graphite drawings, all students are developing their images using a variety of techniques. Their artwork, while not yet complete, will hopefully be featured in a future newsletter before the end of the year.
