School Council

School Council focus in November

The work of School Council in November includes reviewing the Parent Survey, the draft cash budget for 2024 and hire contracts for 2024.

At our last meeting we discussed the Boroondara Active and Safe Schools program. We have since met with Khanh from the City of Boroondara and Tara who will be working with us throughout 2024.

We discussed the safety learning sessions, we have arranged for the school travel survey to be sent out to the community and providing the data to the Council for the development of the dot map which will be used to produce a safe travel to school brochure for the school. The school has also been able to put in an Expression of Interest for 1-2 teachers to be trained in the Bike Ed program.

The Community Engagment team of School Council has met twice since our last meeting to set dates for our 2024 community and fundraising events. These dates will be confirmed and added to the COMPASS calendar for you to add to your family diary.

Cat is currently a Grade 2 teacher, and the Learning Specialist for Literacy at BPPS. Her love of this beautiful school began as a mum to 4 children living and learning throughout their childhoods here on this land. She has been, variously, volunteer, Class Rep, relief teacher,  Performing Arts teacher, classroom teacher, Learning Specialist and school council member. Cat still loves the learning journey she is on at BPPS, and is passionate about our school being a thriving, sparkling learning hub.

Maria has two children who both attend BPPS (Grade 6 and Grade 3).  Maria has been a member of school council as a community member since 2022 and really enjoys volunteering and working with the team. Whilst Maria finds the role rewarding, the added bonus of being part of school council has been the amazing parents and teachers that she has been able to meet outside of her children's grades.  In between basketball games and everyday life Maria loves a good walk and planning her next passion project.

Shannon is the Assistant Principal. She started at BPPS as a grade 6 teacher from 2006 to 2018, with a one year break in 2012 when she went to Prep (Foundation). Shannon feels very lucky to be part of BPPS. One of the reasons she loves working at BPPS is her belief in the school's priority to develop the whole child – socially, emotionally, academically, culturally and physically - within a caring and supportive environment. As a teacher and a leader her focus is on building relationships with the entire school community and always ensuring what is best for the students drives her decision-making. Outside of school she loves to garden, read crime novels, walk her 3 dogs, hang out at the beach, and look after her two beautiful grandchildren.
