Visual Art

Our Foundation students have almost finished their first year of learning at BPPS and to celebrate their growth in visual art skills they drew these cheerful self portraits.

Grade 1 and 2

Students in Grades 1 and 2 are very proud of the clay birds they made and so they should, they look fabulous! Throughout the process, students demonstrated their modeling skills, learned how to use scoring and slip and finally painted their birds and added legs.

Grade 3 and 4

Over the next few weeks, students will explore sculpture building practices creating a human sculpture tableau that portrays a certain event or situation. They started by studying the work of Australian artist April Pine, exhibitor and winner of the 2017 Sculpture by the Sea  ‘People’s choice prize’ at Bondi.

Students discussed the human form as a subject for art making and the definition of a tableau: ‘An arrangement of people who do not move or speak, especially on a stage, who represent a view of life, an event, etc.’ . Working in small groups, students formed a series of tableaux depicting scenarios called out by the teacher.

Grade 5 and 6

The 'ugly dolls' are finished and they look fantastic. It has been terrific to see the students persisting with new skills and being engaged and creative!

Over the next few weeks students will be exploring 'Pointillism" and using the technique to make a painting.
