Year 9 - City Experience

City Experience takes Year 9 Students Down a Sporting Hall of Fame

The 2023 City Experience saw the Year 9 Connect classes visit Melbourne CBD for a 3-day inquiry-based learning journey. Students had the opportunity to learn about sustainable food production in the hustle bustle of one of Melbourne’s busiest café hot spots- Degraves Laneways.

Students also ventured over to the MCG for a 1 hour guided sports history tour where they learnt about some of Australia’s most iconic faces in sport. Whilst on this tour, students also learnt about the Indigenous cricket players that represented Australia during some of Australia’s biggest test matches as well as the incredible achievements of the Matildas women's soccer team. Students also explored some of Melbourne’s most iconic artistic hot spots such as the graffiti laneways and the Melbourne Arts Centre.

The City Experience culminated with an exceptional guided tour of the Shrine of Remembrance hosted by our very own staff member Ross Pearson. Thank you, Ross, your grasp of Australian history is astounding. Overall, the students who attended the City Experience are commended for their superb manners and conduct in public.

Thank you to all the staff that participated and contributed to the planning of the event including the key organizers Sarah Daly, Ross Pearson and Trish Bennet, your efforts are greatly appreciated. Year 9 students will use their up and coming Connect class time to prepare a short showcase of their City Experience unpacking some of their questions of inquiry as well as their overall social and emotional learning. Well done guys, great work!
