Exciting Update – Student Voice and Agency.

This semester, we have been eagerly enhancing Student Voice and Agency processes at Glen Waverley Primary School. We are thrilled to share with you the latest developments in our commitment to fostering a vibrant and inclusive learning environment.

As you are aware, we believe that students are not just learners but active contributors to their own education. By incorporating their perspectives, opinions, and ideals, we empower them to take ownership of their learning journey, promoting a sense of responsibility and engagement.

We have two exciting new additions to our Student Voice and Agency approach:

  • The Student Voice Process: a tool for both students and staff, as we move into having students share voice and develop agency by having them present in the teacher’s weekly planning meetings. This process is currently being trialled and will be completely implemented in 2024.

  • The Student Voice Preference Survey: a tool for students to share how they prefer to share their voice. Not all students are the same – they all have a voice but each individual child prefers to share their thoughts differently. In the first two weeks of school (2024), each child across the school will fill out a survey, communicating their sharing preference with their teacher. This will then be used as a tool to ensure each student’s voice is heard and utilized in the teaching and learning process.

We are looking forward to using these new tools to support the integration of Student Voice in shaping the educational experience of each and every one of the students at Glen Waverley Primary School.
