Why we teach Mindfulness at Camelot Rise Primary School
At our school, we take a holistic approach to education, nurturing not just academic growth but also the emotional and social wellbeing of every child. One way we support this is by weaving mindfulness into our daily routines.
Mindfulness is simply the practice of paying attention to the present moment with
kindness and curiosity. It helps students become more aware of their thoughts, feelings, and surroundings, and learn how to respond calmly rather than react quickly.
Through short, age-appropriate mindfulness activities—such as deep breathing, listening to calming sounds, guided visualisations, and noticing emotions—we aim to give students tools to:
- Manage stress and anxiety
- Develop emotional awareness
- Improve focus and concentration
- Build resilience and self-regulation
- Foster empathy and kindness
Research shows that children who practise mindfulness can experience better learning outcomes, stronger relationships, and increased happiness. For many students, mindfulness becomes a simple and effective way to pause, reset, and re-engage during the busy school day.
We encourage families to ask their child about the mindfulness strategies they’ve learned. You might even find some of them helpful at home as well!
Together, we are creating a calm, caring, and supportive learning environment—one mindful moment at a time.
