Japan Trip 2026 – Expressions of Interest Coming Soon!
We’re excited to share that initial planning is underway for our next Japan Trip, scheduled for Term 3, 2026! This amazing opportunity is offered every two years and is open to current Year 4 and 5 students (who will be in Years 5 and 6 next year).
The Japan Trip is a unique opportunity that enriches students’ Japanese language learning and deepens their cultural understanding. A highlight of the trip is the visit to our sister school, where students connect with local peers and experience everyday life in a Japanese classroom. Students also explore a range of cultural and historical landmarks, experience traditional and modern aspects of Japanese life, and enjoy the sights, food, and vibrant atmosphere that make Japan such an unforgettable destination.
First introduced in 2017, the trip has run every second year and was successfully resumed last year after a break due to COVID. It remains one of the most popular programs we offer, with strong interest from students.
Due to the extensive planning and early bookings required, we are getting preparations underway now. Full details, including the application process, will be shared later this year.
Please keep an eye on the newsletter and Compass for updates. We look forward to another exciting cultural adventure in 2026!
First Aid & CPR Training Update
Last week, some staff members completed their First Aid and CPR training as part of our ongoing commitment to student safety and wellbeing.
First Aid qualifications are updated every three years, while CPR training is required annually. These regular updates help ensure that we have trained staff available across all year levels and in all areas of the school, ready to respond in the event of an emergency.
It follows on nicely from the student first aid training completed last term – great to see both staff and students brushing up on their life-saving skills!
Working With Children’s Check (WWCC) Reminder
Parents and carers are reminded that all adults require a current WWCC in order to volunteer in classrooms and attend camps and excursions.
WWCC are valid for five years and are free for volunteers to apply for. You can apply, renew and check your existing status by visiting https://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au/ .
We regularly encourage volunteers in classrooms and on excursions. Even if it is not something you have previously considered, it can be useful to have, and we encourage you to apply.
Once your card arrives, bring it to the school office where the staff will take a copy and add you to our WWCC register.
Child Safe Expectations for Volunteers at Buninyong Primary School
At Buninyong Primary School, keeping children safe is our top priority. All volunteers play an important role in helping us create a safe and supportive environment.
If you’re volunteering at school, you’ll need to:
- Have a current Working With Children Check (WWCC)
- Sign and follow our Child Safety Code of Conduct – this means always acting professionally, never being alone with a child out of sight of others, and treating everyone with respect
- Follow staff instructions and school procedures at all times
- Report any safety concerns to a staff member straight away
- Sign in at the office and wear a visitor badge while at school
Thank you for helping us keep our students safe. If you’re not sure about anything or need more information, please speak to a staff member or contact the office.
