Year 5/6 What's been happening?: Learning, Teamwork and Creativity!

It’s been a busy and exciting start to Term 3 in the Year 5/6 classrooms, with students diving into a range of hands-on, thought-provoking, and skill-building experiences this term.

One of the major highlights has been the Public Speaking Course, where students have been developing their confidence, clarity, and persuasive language skills. From impromptu speeches to structured presentations, they’ve been learning how to express themselves with purpose and poise—skills that will serve them well both in and out of the classroom.

In addition to public speaking, our students have been taking part in a variety of teamwork challenges to prepare for SHARK TANK. These activities are designed to build collaboration, resilience, and problem-solving abilities. It’s been wonderful to see the students support one another, share ideas, and celebrate their successes as a team.

As part of our ongoing focus on sustainability and global citizenship, the Year 5/6s have been watching ‘War on Waste’. This inspiring documentary series has sparked important conversations about the environment, our role in protecting it, and the changes we can make in our own lives to reduce waste.

To top it off, students have also been learning sewing skills in preparation for an exciting upcoming event—SHARK TANK! In this hands-on project, students will design, create, and pitch innovative products to a panel, putting their teamwork, creativity, and entrepreneurial thinking to the test.

It’s been a fantastic term so far, and we’re so proud of the way our Year 5/6 students have embraced each challenge with enthusiasm and curiosity.

YR 2 EXCURSION TO THE IMMIGRATION MUSEUM

Yr. 2’s went on an excursion to the Immigration Museum in Melbourne on Wednesday.

We travelled by train into the city and we got off the train at Flinder’s Street Station.

We did a walk on the Sandridge Bridge, which shows all the different countries that people have come from when they immigrated to Australia and the many reasons why they came.

We went into the Immigration Museum and saw all the different rooms;

One was called ‘Leaving Home’, another was called ‘Getting In’ and the other room was called ‘Voices Across Time’.

We had a lesson in the Education Centre where we looked at different artefacts from times gone by. There was a banner, a wood carving and a possum skin. We had to work in a group to decide what our artefact was, where it came from and who it belonged to.

We heard many stories from people all over the world about their journey to their new home….Australia.
