Inquiry Expo
Each year during term 3 the Senior Team undertakes a term long inquiry project. While the theme changes each year, the project centres around researching a country and its notable features such as cuisine, native wildlife and culture and culminates in each team setting up a stall to showcase what they have learned at our travel expo. Last week students participated in a ballot and have now commenced researching their allocated country. Families will be invited to visit our expo later this term on the Monday of Week 8.
Compass Directions
In our first maths unit of the term students are learning about location, specifically elements such as compass directions, grid coordinates and mapping. If you happen to have a compass at home, maps of any type, an old melways or even a game of battleships it would be great to share this with your child to support them building their knowledge. These hands-on activities are very helpful in developing their confidence using these tools.
Sovereign Hill Excursion
In the last week of term the senior teamed ventured to Sovereign Hill in Ballarat to learn ore about life on the Australian Goldfields. This was linked to our term long inquiry focus "Museums in Motion: Events that Shaped Australia." Students enjoyed the chance to visit a real mine shaft, pan for gold, witness a gold pouring demonstration and participate in a classroom experience from the goldfields. A big thank you to Mr Reynolds, Miss Lisa, Miss Bree, Lisa N and Ben E for attending and supporting our excursion.

Welcome to Term 3!
French Week Dress Up Day was a fabulous success last week, with students embracing the fun of the day by coming in French colours as well as some incredibly creative French inspired outfits. We all enjoyed the delicious special lunch and canteen offerings and especially appreciate all the trouble Mademoiselle Spencer went to by displaying French artwork around the school, providing French goodie bags for each classroom, and setting up the Eiffel Tower photo opportunity in the foyer. Huge thanks to Mademoiselle Spencer from all in the Middle Years Team! Merci beaucoup!
Last week Middle Years Team enjoyed a fabulous incursion with Tom Ryan and his Flying Doctor Simulator. Students were fascinated to learn about the history and importance of the Flying Doctor Service but especially enjoyed getting into the original part-plane simulator to try out the headphones, medical equipment, and to see how patients would be transported. Tom, the facilitator, was likewise impressed with our fabulous students, their knowledge and behaviour.
A big congratulations to all the students who have qualified for District Athletics! You’ve demonstrated excellent dedication, perseverance, and sportsmanship throughout your training and school events. We are so proud of your achievements already and know that you’ll represent Ballan Primary with pride and determination. Whether you're running, jumping, or throwing – give it your best and enjoy the experience. We’ll all be cheering you on from school. Go Ballan!
Finally, a reminder that there are only 43 days left to read, log and review books in order to make the Premier's Reading Challenge (finishes September 5th). Logins have been provided but reach out if your child's logon code has gone missing. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge, supporting 4.5 million young Victorians to read more than 63 million books over this time. The challenge is all about helping young Victorians to discover new books and a love of reading, which is one of the most powerful ways to build literacy skills and contribute to student success in their schooling. Students are encouraged to log and review all the books they read – thereby helping other students to discover a new favourite book or series. It has been lovely to log on and read the reviews submitted by our students, and to check on their progress towards the challenge. Parents, please support your child to logon and complete their entries and reviews as time is drawing to a close! Example below of a submitted review.

French Week Dress-Up Day – Junior School Fun!
French Week Dress-Up Day was a huge hit with our Junior students last week! It was wonderful to see so many children dressed in French colours and some truly creative, French-inspired costumes. The special lunch and canteen treats were a big highlight, and the day was made even more special thanks to the amazing efforts of Mademoiselle Spencer.
From the beautiful French artwork displayed around the school to the fun goodie bags delivered to each classroom and of course, the fantastic Eiffel Tower photo spot in the foyer! Mademoiselle Spencer helped bring a touch of France to our school in the most exciting way.
A big merci beaucoup from all of us in the Junior School!
