Congratulations to Grade 1/2 Patrao-Hurley for winning our first Maths Challenge of Term 3!
Here is our next Maths Challenge for the term:
During reading sessions, students compared and contrasted different texts by looking at the similarities and differences between them. Last week, our focus text was 'The Three Little Pigs'. We also read 'The True Story of the Three Little Pigs' and the students compared both books using a Venn Diagram. This week, we looked at 'Little Red Riding Hood' and then compared it to the modern day twist 'Red Riding Hood was Rotten'.
In Writing lessons, we have been learning about the structure and features of narrative texts.
In Mathematics, students have been working on identifying and investigating the properties of 2D and 3D shapes shapes. They have also been learning about location by giving and following directions and locating objects within a space.
In Topic, we investigated high and low pitch sounds by filling bottles with different amounts of water and blowing across the tops to hear the different sounds. The students then had fun creating their own straw instruments.

Mathematics:
Next week in Mathematics, we will begin learning about division.
Topic:
Next week, as part of our Topic of Light and Sound, students will be linking together their understanding of light and sound before moving on to begin working on creating their own puppet show.
Respectful Relationships:
This term for RRRR, we will be covering Topic 7 - Gender norms and stereotypes. Activities within this topic area will assist students to:
• reflect on their identity via a focus on their likes, dislikes and strengths
• develop an awareness of positive and negative gender norms
• challenge negative gender norms
• develop an appreciation of difference.
Book Week (Week 5) (Repeated from last Newsletter)
It’s that’s time of year again when we dust off the hot glue gun and put together a costume to celebrate Book Week. This year, Book Week will be celebrated from Monday 18th to Friday 22nd August, and the 2025 theme is Book an Adventure! 2025 is a milestone year, celebrating 80 years of the Australian Children’s Book Week!
We have organised 2 family events for the week:
We will also be doing some additional activities during the week to help celebrate and promote Book Week, including our own judging of the short-listed children’s picture books.
