Congratulations to Grade 1/2 Patrao-Hurley for winning our first Maths Challenge of Term 3!
Here is our next Maths Challenge for the term!
This fortnight in Literacy, we’ve been learning how great authors plan and bring stories to life. Inspired by authors such as Aaron Blabey, students have explored how characters, settings, and problems are developed before writing begins. We’ve also studied David Walliams’ use of fun, quirky language, moving from spotting describing words to comparing how two characters are portrayed. In writing, Ocean Meets Sky has inspired us to plan imaginative journeys, using rich description and imagery to create mood and meaning.
In Applied Maths, our students have been exploring measurement, money, and number operations through real-life contexts. We’ve learned how to understand and compare units of weight (grams and kilograms) and volume (millilitres and litres), using scales and measuring tools accurately, and choosing the most appropriate unit and tool for different items.
In problem-solving lessons, students have applied their money skills to real-world scenarios, adding and subtracting amounts, working within a budget, and justifying their spending decisions mathematically. We have also strengthened our understanding of the connections between addition and subtraction, solving missing number problems and using inverse operations to check answers. Students have also discovered how the two operations are related, writing fact families and using multiplication facts to solve related division problems with confidence.
SWPBS:
We have continued to celebrate our wonderful display of school values with students reaching exciting Gugu sticker milestones. These milestones recognise the consistent effort, kindness, and positive choices our students show every day. To reward these achievements, we’ve enjoyed fun celebrations including class parties, free dress days, and crazy hair days, making our school days even more memorable and rewarding.
ATHLETICS:
Last week, some of our legendary athletes represented Spring Gully at the Regional Athletics Day. Not only did our students impress with their athletic ability, bringing home plenty of first-place results, but they also stood out for their respectful behaviour, encouragement of one another, and outstanding sportsmanship. We are so proud of the way they represented our school, both on and off the track.
Book Week (Week 5)
It is that time of year again when we dust off the hot glue gun and put together a costume to celebrate Book Week. This year, Book Week will be celebrated from Monday 18th to Friday 22nd August, and the 2025 theme is Book an Adventure! 2025 is a milestone year, celebrating 80 years of the Australian Children’s Book Week!
We have organised 2 family events for the week:
Our Grade 3/4 students will do some additional activities during the week to help celebrate and promote Book Week, including our own judging of the short-listed children’s picture books.
