Principal's Report

Book Week
Last week, students at Clyde celebrated Book Week. Throughout the week, students explored a range of this year’s shortlisted books, and members of our school leadership team visited classes to share their own favourite children’s books.
The week culminated with one of our favourite whole school events, the Book Week Parade. It was great to see our students and teachers dressed up as some of their favourite characters – and to have so many families come along to watch our parade as well. Thank you to everyone who helped make this fun event such a success!
Please see our Book Week Parade page for photos!
Reading Approach
From Term 1 2025, all Victorian government students from Foundation to Grade 2 must be taught using a systematic synthetic phonics approach as part of their reading programs, with a minimum of 25 minutes daily explicit teaching of phonics and phonemic awareness. Systematic synthetic phonics is a structured approach that explicitly teaches the relationship between sounds and letters to read words.
We were already running a synthetic phonics approach using the Little Learner Love Literacy program, but we have recently reviewed and modified our instructional model to ensure there is time for the daily 25 minutes of explicit teaching.
We were also fortunate to receive a grant for $8,190 from the Variety Club of Australia, and the Department of Education gave us an allocated $5,342 to spend on resources to assist with implementation of the approach. Our English Team have used this money to purchase student books to match this approach and will be using these in the classroom and for take home books soon.
Father's Day Stall and Picnic
Thursday 4th September - Father's Day Stall
All students will be offered an opportunity to visit the stall on this day to purchase a gift/s for Father's Day. Gifts will range between $1.00 - $5.00. This is not a fundraising event, the costing is to cover costs only. Any students absent on this day will have an opportunity to purchase a gift on Friday.
Friday 5th September - Father's Day Celebration Picnic
Please bring a picnic lunch to share with your child/ren. Gates will not be open before 1:50pm.
Parent Information Session BYOD Program
In Year 5 and 6 students are highly encouraged to have their own laptops at school as this fosters the development of 21st century technology skills. Through this, students are able to access the Victorian Curriculum in a way that develops skills that students can use in secondary school, when they join the work force and in their own personal lives.
On the 9th September parents of students in Year 4 are invited to participate in a ‘Bring Your Own Device’ (BYOD) Information Session from 5:30-6:30pm. This session will provide families with information regarding the program and what type of device is most suitable to bring to school.
Footy Day Sausage Sizzle
Monday 8th September we will be celebrating our annual Footy Day, in the lead up to the AFL Grand Final. It is filled with fun activities. Some of which are outlined below:
- Students can come dressed in their team colours, AFL or another sport.
- The AFL Parade will be held at 9:10am in the gym, AFL team songs will be played and students can join the parade when their song is played.
- During next week Mrs Bevis and Mrs Murnane (PE teachers) will be running a longest kick competition for all students, split into houses and by Junior and Senior levels. The prizes will be given at the AFL Footy Parade.
Clyde's Great Spaghetti Pig Out!
Our Year 5 and 6 students have undertaken an extensive study of one of Australia's most beloved children's authors, Paul Jennings.
On Thursday 11th September (6pm - 7pm), our students will present to their families, an adaption of his famous story “The Spaghetti Pig Out”, as they bring the story to life with song and dance. We hope their presentation will inspire you to discover—or rediscover—the magic of Paul Jennings' storytelling.
Students in Foundation to Year 6 will be able to view a matinee performance of this production at a cost of $2 (cash to be given to their classroom teacher).
Foundation - Year 2 Students:
Date: Monday 8th September - 12:30pm
Year 3 - Year 6 Students:
Date: Thursday 11th September at 12:30pm.
Students in Years 5 and 6 will be able to view the production at no cost as this production is part of their curriculum.
Please contact the office if you have any further questions.

SRC Lolly Jar Competition
Recently, some of our Year 1 students wrote to our SRC to request some basketball hoops for the the junior school. The SRC discussed this request at one of their recent meetings and decided this was a good idea and will now raise some funds to help purchase the basketball hoops. The SRC will be doing this by running a Lolly Guessing Competition starting next week. There are five jars in total of various lolly types, and students from the SRC will run a stall at the front of the school in the mornings and afternoons, for 50 cents a guess. The winners (closest without going over) will be presented at our final whole school assembly, Monday 15th September.

Hi, my name is Mrs. Monterrosa and I am excited to teach STEM and join the Specialist Team! I have been a teacher for 14 years and I have a passion for teaching STEM to primary school aged students. I have a background in Information Technology and I am looking forward to fostering a love for design, technology, engineering and science. My hobbies include playing tennis, interior design, gardening, reading and cooking. I also love to listen to a wide variety of music! As a busy mum, I make sure to spend quality time with my two little kids aged five and seven. I have travelled to many countries including China, Spain, France, England, Vanuatu, Jordan and the UAE. I'm planning to take my kids to Walt Disney in Japan and enjoy the oriental culture of Japan. Feel free to greet me and introduce yourself if you see me walking around the school.
Hi everyone. I’m Miss Michelle and I’m very excited to be working at Clyde Primary School in 2025 as an Integration Aide working in Foundation C students.
I am a qualified Early Childhood Teacher and am excited for a new challenge in Education Support. I’ve been working with children since 2008 and my passion is watching them develop, grow and support their education journey. I pride myself on developing meaningful relationships with each student and getting to know them as an individual. I love the moment when a student learns something new and you just see the 'a-ha moment' on their face, it makes coming to work everyday so rewarding.
Outside of school, I am a mum of two primary school age children. I love spending time with the kids and my husband going on family adventures, playing games such as Uno with them, going to the park and taking our Cavoodle for walks.
I am a passionate St Kilda supporter and try and go every week, I’ve been to many interstate games and even the first international match in New Zealand.
I am looking forward to my time at Clyde Primary School supporting the students and staff to contribute to a safe and engaging learning environment.
Hello, I am Miss B and I am a new education support at Clyde Primary School. I am so glad to have the opportunity to work here and am excited to start a new journey. I am currently in my second year of studying Primary education at university as I want to be a teacher in the future. I want to be able to help children learn and grow in the classroom and have an impact on their future. This new role will allow me to gain more experience in the classroom and give extra support to the teachers and students.
I love playing basketball, watching footy, camping and spending time with family and friends outside of work. Family is very important to me! I come from a family of six, with three other siblings, two being younger than me. Which means I have grown up being a role model and guiding them through life, which I also plan to do with students here at Clyde PS. I look forward to meeting everyone and being a part of the school!
