CAREERS AND PATHWAYS

Year 8 Parent Information Evening - Subject Selection
In Week 5 our Year 8 Parent Information Session was held to support families as students begin the important process of subject selection for Year 9. It was wonderful to see such a strong turnout, with many families in attendance and actively engaging in discussions about future pathways.
During the session, families were provided with an overview of the subject selection process, key dates, and the resources available to support students in making informed choices. Teachers and staff shared valuable insights into subject offerings, pathways into senior years, and considerations that will help guide students toward their future goals.
Families also had the opportunity to hear from the Academy Movement about the exciting launch of our Rugby and Cricket Academies, which will commence in 2026. These programs will provide students with the chance to combine their academic studies with high-quality sporting development opportunities.
We would like to thank all families who attended and contributed to the evening. Your involvement plays an important role in supporting students to make confident and well-informed decisions about their learning journey.
Exploring Careers and Leadership with ABCN
Over the past fortnight, Year 9 students had the exciting opportunity to take part in two inspiring excursions organised in partnership with the Australian Business and Community Network (ABCN). Both experiences gave students valuable insights into possible future pathways and the skills needed to succeed beyond school.
Tech Careers Expo - Commonwealth Bank Tech Quarters
Students attended the Tech Careers Expo at Commonwealth Bank’s Tech Quarters, where they explored the rapidly growing world of technology. They learned about careers in areas such as coding, cyber security, and artificial intelligence. Industry professionals shared their career journeys, the skills in demand, and how young people can prepare now for future opportunities. The hands-on activities and interactive sessions gave students a real taste of what working in the tech industry could look like.
Emerging Leaders Program - BlueScope
Another group of students participated in ABCN’s Emerging Leaders program, proudly hosted by BlueScope. This experience focused on building confidence, teamwork, and communication skills. Students worked closely with mentors from different departments within BlueScope, who encouraged them to step outside their comfort zones and discover their own leadership potential. The day challenged students to think about how they can make a positive impact in their school and wider community.
Both excursions were an outstanding success, with students representing the college with pride and enthusiasm. We sincerely thank ABCN, Commonwealth Bank, and BlueScope for making these opportunities possible.
We are excited to continue our partnership with ABCN and look forward to many more opportunities that help our students explore pathways, build networks, and prepare for life after school.
