Year 7 STEM - Haunted House Robotics Challenge

Our Year 7 STEM students have just completed their first Common Assessment Task (CAT) of the Team, and it was a spooky one!

For the past few weeks, students have been learning the basics of robotics and coding using Edison Robots. To put their knowledge into practice, they were challenged to design, test, and refine programs that could guide their robot through a Haunted House maze.

The task required students to:

  • Break down complex problems into smaller steps.
  • Use sensor data to help their robot make decisions.
  • Apply computational thinking to navigate obstacles.
  • Work collaboratively to test and improve their designs.

The classroom buzzed with creativity and problem-solving as students troubleshot their code, adjusted their robots’ paths, and celebrated each successful escape from the Haunted House. This CAT not only built their technical skills but also highlighted the importance of teamwork, persistence, and innovative thinking.

We are proud of the effort and enthusiasm our Year 7s have shown, and we look forward to seeing how they continue to grow in their STEM learning journey this year.

Year 9 Women in STEM Incursion

On Friday, 5th September, select Year 9 female students with an interest in STEM were invited to participate in a Women in STEM program at the school. Students learnt about the pathways into RMIT, met mentors who are studying within the STEM field, and completed STEM related activities such as paper rockets, Ozobots and Makey Makey programming. The day ended with a Q&A session, where students could ask the mentors about their experience at university and what it was like to work in STEM.
