Year 8 Netball Finals
20 students represented the college on Wednesday at the Year 8 Netball Finals out at Boardman Stadium, Sunbury. This is always a very enjoyable day, and this year proved no different!
After months of hard work, the Girls put practice into play, dominating their pool with 4 very strong wins. Unfortunately, while very competitive against perennial powerhouses Sacred Heart, our Girls went down in a tight contest, finishing 2nd in their pool. This is an outstanding achievement and shows our how well our Girls played.
Our Boys team started the day with a convincing win over Hume Anglican Donnybrook, before facing two very dominant teams in Craigieburn and Edgars Creek. While our ball movement was very good, the speed of play demonstrated by their opponents proved too much. For many of the boys, this was their first foray into Netball, and we hope their success keeps them coming back for Inters next year.
Thanks to all our students for yet another outstanding representation of our college in sport, and to coaches Elise, Crystle and Perez for their efforts.
Year 7 Mixed Netball Region Finals
On Friday, the Year 7 Mixed Netball team travelled to La Trobe Sports Stadium for the SSV Northern Metro Region (NMR) Finals- one step away from State. This was a very exciting stage for our students, who were all competing at this level for the first time.
Our first match saw a very hard-fought battle with Northcote HS. After an even 1st half, our team pushed out to maintain a four goal buffer in the third quarter, before a late surge by Northcote in the final quarter had the match on a knife-edge. Our team rallied, and with strong interceptions, swift ball movement and accurate shooting, pushed back out to a four-goal margin, winning 14-10.
In the second match, our team were forced to back-up without rest due to fixturing changes, and came up against St Helena SC, who hadn't played yet. After a close first half which saw St Helena up by a goal at half time, the toll of minutes played became evident for our team, and despite their efforts, St Helena pulled away to record a 20-11 victory. It must be noted that our players fought it out until the final whistle, demonstrating their resilience to compete.
Overall, our Year 7 Mixed Netball team finished tied first in their pool- with goal difference being the decider. This is a phenomenal effort from our students, who represented the college with pride and rich values- you did yourselves and the college proud!
Thanks to Crystle Hendry for her work as coach, dedication to training and sharing her outstanding knowledge with our students.
Melbourne City FC Elite Football Program Term 4 2025
Melbourne City FC Elite Football Program Term 4 2025
Mickleham Secondary College is pleased to offer the Elite Football Program again in 2025, in partnership with the Melbourne City Football Club (MCFC).
With a successful pilot in Term 4, 2024 we are excited to continue this program and provide an elite sporting opportunity for our students.
The program will be facilitated by Melbourne City FC coaches, and is designed to further enhance the skills, game sense and conditioning for students who are already involved in community/club football programs, or have relative playing experience, and have aspirations for higher playing opportunities. The program will run for 7 weeks, commencing Monday October 20th from 3:15pm- 4:15pm, and continue on Monday afternoons for 7 weeks, excluding Monday November 3rd (Curriculum Day).
The cost of the program is a minimum of $150 per student. Final costing will be provided to students once applications are accepted, and will be based on the number of students in the program.
Unfortunately, CSEF credit can not be used for this program as this is an extra-curricular after school program. Families with CSEF credit are encouraged to use this funding for excursions, such as interschool sports events.
Please note, only those students who are successful with their application for the program will need to pay the tuition fees, and this will be done via Compass once successful students are confirmed in the program. Further information will be sent to successful students at this time.
This program is open to all year levels and genders. Dependent on numbers and the year levels of the final intake, students may be grouped by year level, or participate together as one group. Interested students are encouraged to complete the below application form to be considered for the program. Due to the anticipated number of applications for this program, and as students are representing the college in a partnership with a high-profile organisation like Melbourne City FC, students will be selected on a combination of criteria, including previous football experience, achievement and involvement in Health & Physical Education classes, and the interschool sport program at Mickleham Secondary College, exemplary behaviour and attendance, and outstanding college recognitions as evidenced on Compass. These factors will be equally considered when assessing applications.
To be considered for the program, interested students are encouraged to complete this application form by the due date. Once applications are received, the selection panel will finalise a short list, which may be followed by an interview with a panel. After this stage, students will be notified whether they have been successful in their application to the program.
Due to the expected number of applications, applications are due by 5pm on Sunday September 14th. If you have any questions, or need support in completing the application form, please contact Karla (Football Programs Coordinator & Year 9 Coordinator) or Mr Perez (Sports Coordinator).
